Pederson Custom Guitars - EuphoricMojo Sinker Redwood/Figured Koa
This is a guitar I will have at Healdsburg and after that it will be sent to its owner. If your going to be in Healdsburg, player or builder, please come by and check it out. I'd like to meet you all, and I'd be happy to answer any questions about the guitar there.
This is my 16" lower bout EuphoricMojo model. Sinker Redwood top Figured Koa back and sides Koa/sapele/koa neck laminations with w/b/w accents Macassar ebony fingerboard Brazilian rosewood binding top Brazilian rosewood binding back Brazilian rosewood binding fingerboard Brazilian rosewood binding headstock Brazilian rosewood arm rest bevel Brazilian rosewood back strip b/w/b purflings (or w/b/w) Abalone/paua binding the top, fingerboard and headstock Koa overlay on back of headstock (w/ black and white fine lines) West African headstock overlay 25.5" scale Adjustable Acoustic Saddle bridge - bone saddles Bone nut Gold frets Gold Gotoh 510 tuner buttons Abalone/abstract wood rosette cool inlay to be determined Here is the body shape Here is the back wood - (sorry the pic is a little blurry) close up of the redwood The customers fingerboard is the Macassar ebony in the middle. 25.5 " scale. inlay
Hi Maks - yes we will warm this one up with some bursts too. Again, real subtle, but very effective. I also forgot to mention that I will be doing the dual engineered sound ports in the description above.
Were also discussing the inlay too. It won't be quite this intense though More photos later today. Kevin. |

rosette
Here are a few pics of the rosette. The outer ring will be complete as soon as I get more abalone in this week.
Of course I did not originate this type of design, but here is our take on it, and the one going in this guitar. I am really happy with the colors in this rosette and how they look against the sinker redwood. My son put this together. |

progress photos the neck
You've seen it all before :-). Here is how I do it. I plow the truss rod with this jig. Then I attach the fingerboard overhang tab, then I rout the CF rods in. That way everything is stiffened and "tied" together. My necks are adjustable unless otherwise requested.
The graphite rods really help fight the compression that the strings exert on the neck. If you use the allied lutherie truss rod, a good way to make the top 'flat' bar also fight against this compression, is to put a little wood tab above the adjusting nut - then glue the spline over the bar and out onto this 'tab' that goes over the nut. Don't leave it "open", or stop the wood spline where the rod ends. This "traps" the top bar and when the strings start to compress the neck, the rod will bear against that little piece of wood (conversely that the headstock overlay is laminated over also on the face side), and will act to further resist this compression. Makes for stiff necks. Make sense? I might have a pic if someone doesn't get what I'm saying. |

back bracing and sides
Here is my back bracing scheme on this EuphoricMojo. I have found that this works well with this shape.
The sides will pop a little more after I get them sanded down. So far its coming along really well. I'm trying to get the inside of this one looking really clean. I've got the sides bent and should have some pics of those up soon. Have a good day. Kevin.. |

engineered sound ports

Those soundports are absolute works of art (as is the rest of that guitar). I've never seen anything quite like them.

sound ports

Mike - I never liked the open hole look on the side of the guitar - it looked unfinished to me, so I decided to "tune" the box and engineer out the holes. A few years ago I was only putting one hole back by the bevel - the rear one. I figured I could somewhat "triangulate" the sound to the player if I added that second one up front...not stereo, nothing like that, but just more of a 'directional' sound. I feel like it opens up some of the higher frequencies to the players ear. It allows them to hear a different "perspective" of the guitar. Hope that doesn't sound too mumbo jumbo - in short, to allow the player more chance to hear the higher frequencies when he/she is playing. Have a great day. Kevin. more pics tomorrow. |

abalone binding/headstock
I also mentioned that I would be doing the abalone binding on this guitar. So here is a headstock picture of another guitar with the purflings, abalone and bindings. This is a similar scheme I'll be doing on this redwood/koa Mojo.
