Joni Mitchell turns 75!
I haven't seen anyone post on this, so I thought I'd put this out there before it's too late.
One night only, Feb 7th, a major concert/movie will be presented in theaters all over the US . It's the combined result of 2 concerts in LA last November to celebrate Joni Mitchell's 75th birthday. The 2+ minute trailer is here: https://www.joni75.com Click on the left hand panel to view. Looks to be an exciting presentation....my wife and I will be going. I think tickets were $15 each. Best wishes, Fred

Just bought the 2 tickets. i love her music and enjoying the challenge of learning her complex finger picking patterns (see this month's Acoustic Guitar magazine).

I saw this film this weekend and really enjoyed it. To me the two standout performances were Kris Kristofferson with Brandi Carlisle singing A Case of You and Seal's renditions of Both Sides Now and A Strange Boy. Excellent musicians in the band. sometimes these things can get a bit weighted down but I thought this overall was a great tribute to an artist who has obviously touched so many musicians, singers, and songwriters.

Cool.
Joni's a favorite of mine. Maybe the most unique songwriter of our time. Fearless. |

Pretty interesting to observe the audience in the theater applaud as if they were at a live concert rather than a movie! LOL! I also thought the camera work was creative and made this a memorable night. best, Fred

Remarkable too, that she considers herself an artist(painter) before a songwriter or singer. Her music has always meant so much to me. A line in her song "Woodstock" sent me on a lifelong journey of Astrophysics. "We are billion year old carbon". It was a good deal more painstaking in 1969 to get information about these matters than now, and as I began to track it down I grew to respect her philosophies more and more. A song that is more relevant than ever, is her plaintive and inquiring cry to us as a country," The Fiddle and the Drum".

Reading a book about Joni, Carly Simon and Carole King right now.......called "Girls Like Us".
Fascinating tour of the late 50's music scenes and beyond with intimate bio details of each of these famous artists. And, how interconnected they were to each other in certain ways! In Joni's case so much can be attributed to her mother's overbearing presence which is sad to witness in the book's stories. Much of this played a big role in her escape to creativity and ultimate fame and artistry, but it seemed a very hard road to travel to get to. Haven't finished the book yet, but this is the picture one gets.

Saw it and loved every minute of the performances. But, was so sad to see what a lifetime of cirgarettes did to this beautiful genius.
