Maybe I need to try a different mixer. Is the output on your mixer line level or something else?

I’m using a Yamaha MG06X and it says that the outputs are +4.

Yorkville LS801p

Just kidding.

I thought the appeal of the S1 was having a 15lb battery powered PA system that did it all. I feel like adding a subwoofer goes against the whole point and tries to make the S1 what it isn't.

At that point, you're better off with a K8 and sub. Maybe an Electro-Voice ZXA1-Sub. Pretty underwhelming as far as subs go, but probably a decent match for the S1. Not 15lbs and not battery powered tho...
