I was in Las Vegas for my 50th birthday. A new record high was reached for LV was set that day, 118 degrees.

We tried walking from the Mirage to somewhere (can't remember). Walked about a quarter mile, turned around and went back. It was beastly. Holed up in the Mirage for the day. Even the locals were complaining about the heat. Cars were sinking into the black-topped parking lots.

Another record was set that night- a new record high low. The temperature only went down to 96 degrees overnight.

I couldn't live there.

We can joke but the situation has both short and long term very real consequences. And disconcerting that so many still seem to willingly choose the head in the sand denial perspective, apparently no matter how hot the sand keeps getting

When I was ten years old, in midsummer 1960, I was on the iconic “big trip west” (Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, Grand Canyon, Vegas). Driving out of Vegas a little after 9am, we saw a time/temp sign (fairly new back then) that told us it was already 108 degrees. No idea how hot it eventually got that day, but it was too darn hot for my taste.

It was hot and humid here in Indiana the entire week the wife was in Alaska recently bragging about how nice the weather was there. The day before she gets back we get a cold front and it's now in the 60's.

This has happened before. Here in Indiana several years back it was around 100 for an entire week while the wife was in Germany supervising a high school exchange program. You guessed it: the day she came back it cooled off!

Yes! My brother lives in Mesa...he always tells me that a blow torch is dry heat as well!
In all seriousness I don’t think there’s a short term solution! IMHO

Well to clarify what I said was short term consequences, like for example the situation at Lake Mead, and possible water restrictions that could go into place
But I think there are definitely currently possible short and long term "actions" aimed towards solutions, that could be taken. Granted how soon that might translate into an actual solution and start moving in a positive direction is a good question ,,,, but not really an objective reason to not implement them. The problem is of course the collective will to to do so. Or should I say the collective unwillingness to do so

North central Ohioans are still comfortable wearing long sleeves after 6:00 PM and wrapping up to finish the night with TV. We shut the windows to limit the cool breeze.

It's 40 degrees here this morning. My big furry Aussie loves it. He's sound asleep out on the deck right now.

High of 60 today and tomorrow. I love it too.
