Default Angelina-Tommy Emmanuel cover

My first attempt at recording Angelina was around 3 weeks ago, but wasn't too happy with it. After a a guy plays for a while and goes back to watch TE play it, you keep pick up little changing points. Anyway here's what I recorded 15 min ago. Also Been hitting Mombasa real hard the last three days. Hope to record it in a week or two.

Tell me what you think of this version of Angelina.

Thanks, Ed

Angelina

Man, that was darn good. It certainly had it's little plinks and plunks in a spot or two, but man, that was really good, especially after 3 weeks.

Outstanding job. You can be proud.

Which guitar did you record that on?

Hello Ed . . . That was excellent. As much as I liked your first rendition, this version was much improved. Smoother through the changes and catching all of TEs many nuances. I love this song and you really played it great. A tip of the hat to you my man. Bravo!

Well done, and I think you've cut down on (or at least improved) the various reverb/delay effects, which helps allow your guitar playing to shine through.

Thanks for the comment Rhancox. I played my Crafter TM-035. I really rejoice in this guitar. This was an ebay purchase about 2 months ago for $300. Normally this model would sell for around $700 with a HS case. Crafter guitars are not very well known here is USA. They are quite prolific in UK, Europe, and Asia. Crafters can be bought at a rather lower price here because not too many are aware of how good they are for the dough.

Steve, thanks for your great words. It's really hard for me to record a song like this totally mistake free. But I did record this one on my third attempt last night. I had one recording that I feel was mistake free up to about 2/3 the way through the song. This one has a couple bumps, but they're not as noticeable.
Thanks, Ed

Wow. Really well done. I am always impressed by anyone who can even attempt TE music and this was areally a nice tune. My secretary thought I was listening to a CD! This is not the first time that I heard a Crafter and been impressed by the tone. Maybe the other time was TaylorPrague? That might be fitting because he's a "gibby guy" too! Well done

Thanks Colonel,
I had used the Fender Acoustasonic SFX delay and reverb. What makes a difference is how close the mic is to the amp. This set I had the amp mic (sm57) about 8 inches away and the guitar mic (sm57) around 8 inches from guitar too. As I'm playing it, the reverb/delay effect seems like a lot, but the recording sounds less than what it is. Thanks, Ed

Three attempts, wow is that all . . . usually it takes me 33 attempts to get something close to good enough. And that is on songs that are far less complex than "Angelina".

I call it RED LIGHT FEVER! Anyway I'm looking forward to hearing your take on "Mombassa" another killer song from TE.

Great job! It's one of my TE faves to play too.

Roy, Thanks. I first Heard TE from a tip from another guitar player. Then I Youtubed him and started listening. I thought, "No way, this dude's stuff is pretty complicated." Then in an interview TE said, "Learn stuff you think you can't do." Bingo... That's all it took for me to dive in to his stuff. Since I've bought his Emmanuel Labor DVD and intend learn as much as I can. I know that I don't want to limit myself to just TE's songs...But dang, his stuff is right down my alley. Right now I'm riding the TE wave learning. He'll be in Des Moines in September, I plan on going. Thanks, Ed

It's one of my fav's of his too; WOW, come to think about just about everything he does. Hard to pick a favorite. I want to learn Ruby's Eyes, but it's hard to find a good clear view on TE doing that one. Wish it was on the Labor DVD.
