Default Thumbpick Help--Need Direction

I prefer playing with a thumbpick--when I started playing it was just a lot easier to hold onto--but I've lost my favorite pick and am having trouble locating one I like as much. Essentially they've all been too loose or the actual pick end has been too long. Tried Dunlop and those didn't work, and if I recall the brand I liked was "National." Anyone familiar with them, or able to direct me to a dealer of thumbpicks whose picks are relatively short?

I'm wondering if any of that made sense...

You might try Fred Kelly Thumbpicks.

I agree about Fred Kelly picks and that is what I use, but I remembered that on the John Pearse site, he sells a Thumbpick that he says is a copy of an old National Thumbpick.

Here's the link:

Cool

First Quality Musical Supplies...www.fqms.com has Nationals:
page 31 in their catalog...Part # PK9 National Thumbpick S,M,L....$.60

I couldn't find them on their website, but they don't have everything they offer on there anyway. I believe you can download the catalog if you have adobe. Otherwise, you can order the catalog. There is also a phone number. The people at FQMS are very helpful. So don't be afraid to call them. Good luck.

MAKE it a GREAT day!!!

An emery board or a very fine metal file and a few minutes of your time will allow you to make a custom thumb-pick profile

One more vote for Fred Kelly thumb pics. They give me more control than any other I have tried. Check them out!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions--the Fred Kelly picks look pretty good, so I may have to give those a try sometime soon. I've had two favorite picks and have lost them both. Think the cat hid one of them...

I tried filing one down one time and proved terribly inept with it--it never did sound right afterwards, so I finally tossed it .

....thumbpick, eh? ......

I think you'll enjoy the gentleman that is coming to our workshop as our 'Feature Guest / Performer'. He'll be covering several fingerstyle techniques and will be doing at least one session in which he plays the same tune with 'all bare fingers', then with a thumbpick and fingers, and then with a flatpick with fingers.....

Should be interesting.....I haven't made the announcement on the page yet so I won't drop his name here just yet.....
