Default music theory

I was wondering if anyone knows of a good book for music theory, based around the guiatr would be nice. I have this book now, that is absoutly the worst book in the world. I confuses me when i go over something i already know as simple as what notes are in a G or C major. It is just absoulty, utterly confusing and poorly layed out. Plus half of all the guitar part are all in standard notation, which i can read.. but it takes me awhile and when trying to figure out what is going on it only confuses me more.

So any suggestions i would apperciate. Something that kind of starts out quite simple and builds up. Being based around the guitar would be nice. Like one that also had tabs of various scales and position on the fingerboard.

I highly recommend "Music Principles for the Skeptical Guitarist", Vols 1-3, by Bruce Emery. Volume One, 'The Big Picture' introduces basic music theory. Volume Two, 'The Fretboard', applies the basic theory specifically to the guitar. Volume 3, 'Blues and Jazz' gives a basic introduction to those styles.

The style is informal and "hands-on". I'd suggest you start with Vol 1 and get the other two if the first is to your liking.

It's not all theory, at least half of music has been proven!

I suggest "Fretboard Logic". I've only gotten Vol. II, which covers the formulas for triads, sevenths, and various scales and lead patterns centered around the "C-A-G-E-D" positions of the basic major triads. It's helped me quite a bit. (You don't have to read music, and the author makes a big deal about how guitar theory shouldn't be taught like piano theory.)

How hard can music be? There's only 12 notes.

I ordered "Music Principles for the Skeptical Guitarist" two weeks ago. I'm looking forward to filling-in some gaps in my understanding of theory. I'll write a review after it arrives.

Just bought volumes I & II of "Music Principles for the Skeptical Guitarist" .

Looks pretty good. The style is very easy-going.

Before you plunk down the bucks for fretboard logic, take a look through the book. If you are confused by whatever you read earlier, you may not want to buy Fretboard Logic. I bought all 3 volumes, and they are now in the city landfill, so I guess it is personal opinion. I didn't learn anything new from them, and didn't find it an easier way to teach my students the fretboard.
