This one has been on my list for a while, finally got around to it. Great, great book. If it were fiction this story would seem implausible. Watched the movie too, it was well done.

I also read a lot of history and those ^^^ are all excellent. A recent book I read that was also excellent was Ron Chernow's "Grant." There is a lot in this book that very much affects our situation in the USA today. It's a very thick book, over 1100 pages, but it's very well written and I stayed engaged right through the whole thing. Ron Chernow has won two Pullitzer Prizes for previous books.

I was recently considering Chernow but wasn't sure where to start. I just put "Grant" on my hold list.

Thanks Glenn for the tip.

Every winter I go through my golf and fishing books. Just finished Harvey Penick's "Golf For A Lifetime". Just started "Pike On A Fly" by Barry Reynolds and John Berryman. I ramp up my anticipation for spring while suffering through the final weeks of winter.

Laura Hillenbrand is 2 for 2.

Two excellent books that were made into really good movies. This one and "Seabiscuit."

It's an excellent book. I usually re-read my books but this one was so painful, so visceral, that I've held off until now. An interesting factoid is that Laura Hillenbrand has battled Chronic Fatigue Syndrome since her college days and was unable to walk down her own home's stairs while she was writing the book. Hearing about her plight was what made Louie comfortable with having her write his biography. She's quite a lady.

Well you'll have to let us know about this one when you've delved into it (in search of the devil).

150 Glimpses of the Beatles by Craig Brown.

Short stories from various perspectives, revealing peeks behind the scenes at their rise and decline, motives, others in their circles, spinoffs/copycats/parasites, George Martin's influence, Elvis, Ed Sullivan, Muhamad Ali, Dylan, spouses, finances, world view at the time, etc. Not all of the tales are flattering - a refreshing departure from fawning fan fluff.

Had a chuckle this morning. I was driving to an appointment and listening to the audiobook, narrated by various men and women, all with British accents. My iPhone Siri (also programmed with a fine Brit accent) was providing driving directions, and blending perfectly with the gal narrating an anecdote from the book. It was fun having not one, but two, pleasant sounding birds along for the ride.
