Both Sides Now (Edwinson Zephyr 00)
Here's my performance of Joni Mitchell's Both Sides Now in a solo fingerstyle arrangement done by Mark Hanson that was inspired by a Randy Scruggs arrangement. This was done on my Steve Sheriff built Edwinson Zephyr 00. I'm really enjoying this guitar. There's a couple of spots where I have to get from the 9th fret back to the 1st and 2nd frets that I lose a touch of flow/momentum, have to keep working on that. Still working on trying to make the melody notes stand out better too, that's also a work in progress (but making progress). Posting on S&T is a good motivator!
The post treatment I did to the recording was to apply a high pass filter set at 103Hz and a some subtractive EQ just above. I also added a touch of reverb and mild compression. Signal chain are two spaced pair KM184's (one pointing at 12th fret and one pointing at bridge close mic'd to the guitar to minimize room reverb) going through a Scarlett 2i4 to Reaper DAW. Each mic is recorded as a single mono track panned hard left and hard right (100%). Tuning on the guitar is DGDGBD, capo 1. If you remove the capo and tune down a 1/2 step, you are in the key that Joni Mitchell recorded the original so I guess I am playing a whole step above her key. Thanks to the folks on the Record forum for helping me with some recording questions.https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/...post&p=6601263 Please feel free to critique the performance and recording. Below is revised per post #17 in this thread. Thanks again for listening and any constructive critique, very helpful to me (sounds best with headphones)

Nice job Bob!
That sounds like a nice arrangement. I tried searching Mark Hanson's website but couldn't find it. Can you tell me where I can find the arrangement? Thank you!

Nice job Bob!
I was trying to imagine what this song would sound like without a singing voice, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised when I listened to your rendition! Well done and good job, too, on the recording! - Glenn

Thanks Bob for the kind comments. I have a ways to go with dynamics control and flow/tempo control but making progress for sure.

well done Bob, it sounds great, playing, recording, and the Edwinson! I really like the tone that Steve put into that guitar and you got out of it. I play this one to in open G and it is one of my favorites to play. Steve Kinnaird taught it to me!
