Advances in AI will mean that, one day soon, intelligent mics will know how to position themselves. A robot mic will sidle up to the performer, waving its boom arm around, listening carefully, before finally settling down in the sweet spot.
This will also create a new job: Mic Wrangler. Mics hear everything without auto-tune so someone will have to be on hand to stop them all stampeding out the studio when the latest lip-syncing pop sensation lets rip.
