Bill, that's a great point. Closed tuners may provide better protection against dust/dirt but if an open tuner rusts I have to believe that a closed tuner will rust as well?

Revolutions per minute is plural, abbreviated as RPM. It isn't revolutions per minuteS. Hence RPMs is incorrect. I don't care for the stuff at all. Perhaps I've applied it too heavily, but I find it wet, runny and messy. I've used it on machine parts, mostly to prevent corrosion. It wouldn't be my preference for guitar gears. For guitar gears, a drop of machine oil works fine for me: inexpensive, easy to apply where you want it and lasts for years. |

I should point out that not all style manuals agree on such things. I'm constantly having to go back and forth between the Chicago Manual of Style, which my book publisher uses, and the AP Stylebook, which covers most of the magazines in which I publish. But I've found that magazine editors are not entirely flexible when it comes to AP style.

They should make open tuners with a sealed protective cover to keep out all the dust and dirt that can get into those exposed gears.
