Smile SOLD AGF 2014 Gibson Custom Shop Smeck

Time to move this fantastic BIG guitar

SOLD AGF. Thanks all…..Split actual shipping. Insured on my Heritage account.

Certainly willing to work with buyers, and entertain reasonable offers too!

As BOSS as this HOSS is, it is not getting the attention it deserves. But look at my signature! Sheesh. Hahahaha

2014 Gibson Custom Shop Stage Deluxe. From a limited run of 50.

factory installed Trance Audio Amulet M pup. Sounds spectacular plugged in, as well as acoustically…

upgraded with Jescar Hard gold color frets! Very nice frets, and well done indeed

Also more pics on Reverb. It is in my possession and ready to ship.

https://reverb.com/item/62335055-gib...ntage-sunburst

Want to discuss this? 619-445-1189. 9-9 or so pacific time. Love to tell you all about it!

Short Scale Length: 24 3/4". Nut width: 1.802”. String spacing at saddle: 2.21”

Very comfy (for me) gentle mod V neck carve. Even with my small hands I can fret with a thumb over the top. Nice to have a bit of extra room for your left hand.

I show 8/64” clear at middle of saddle, and action about 5.5/64” E and just under 4/64”e

Hard to tell in the bridge pic, but the bridge is carved a bit thicker on the bass side than the treble! Should avoid problems down the line….

If my digital bathroom scale is correct this weighs about 4.6 pounds. (Had to weigh myself with and without the guitar). Math! Hahaha

Very nicely Re-fretted, with Jescar Gold frets. 12 frets clear of body.

Original Waverly tuners are very smooth and stable. As nice of Waverlies as I have experienced.

This one appears barely played. Very clean, with a few minor signs of use, as one would expect on a babied 8 year old instrument.

The Stage Deluxe Limited is based on Gibson's most powerful flat top model of the 30s with an extra deep, round shoulder body design, solid mahogany back and sides, wide X-bracing and classic soft "V" neck. This is a BIG guitar. And has the BIG tone to match.

Body is 20”x15 7/8”

4.5” deep at neck heel. 4.85” deep at end pin.

Sporting a solid Adirondack red spruce top, it has a dovetail neck-to-body joint, hand-fitted and secured with hide glue.
Has a radiused body for extra projection and clarity.

This Stage Deluxe has a wide open, well balanced and well developed tone, especially fat in the treble range. Plenty of everything for everyone here!

Factory equipped with TranceAudio Amulet M mono active guitar pickup system. Spectacular sound plugged in, and acoustically as well.

2014 Gibson Custom Shop Stage Deluxe LTD

.
Thin nitro cellulose Vintage Sunburst finish

.
Perfect refret with Jescar gold color hypo-allergenic hard alloy frets

.
Solid Adirondack spruce top and braces, solid Honduran mahogany neck, back, sides.
Has a rosewood fretboard and bridge.

Electronics: factory installed Trance Audio pickup. Two lightweight sensors under bridgeplate, inside the guitar. Soundhole rotary controls and preamp at strap pin.
Apparently this is Jackson Brown’s fave pickup, and his signature Gibson was based on his vintage Smecks, but with Walnut back and sides.

Case: Gibson branded OHSC also in excellent condition

Greg Koch playing a similar axe with EIR back and sides. What a monster:

https://youtu.be/ZjIi5tQ5nvQ

Spectacular setup and perfect undetectable hide glue bridge reglue by my pal Tim Luranc, former Senior Tech at Taylor Repair, El Cajon.
Tim commented this is one of the finest Gibsons he has played! IMG_0254.jpgIMG_0265.jpgIMG_0263.jpg

Wish we were closer - would LOVE to try it.

I really loved a Stage Deluxe in rosewood that I played a few years back. If this has a huge voice like that....it has to be an amazing instrument!

Very nice Paul. It's rare that you let one of your gems out in to the wild.
You always have these supreme guitars.

Thank you Alan! You have a nice stash yourself. Hope you are well in paradise!

The first deal I did on AGF was with Alan. We had a fun trade, and both loved the new ones! My that seems long ago and far away…. Hahahah

It has been a couple years, plus, since I have sold a guitar. Funny how they still accumulate despite my best intentions!

This one is a real peach. Setup, action and neck angle are perfect. Thank you Tim Luranc!
Very playable indeed. IF you can handle the BIG body. Interesting that these were originally designed to be played for lap slide, Hawaiian style.
Then the huge box makes no difference. Except to the SOUND.

Happy Tuesday to all.

Paul

Smile She’s back…..

Back on the block. Too many guitars and not enough gigs! Sigh

Mighty special Gibby BIG GUN and total dialed.

The slight gap under the fret tangs is less noticeable in hand than in my harsh pics. The frets feel great and play perfectly.
Of course, the fret ends are visible since the neck is not bound. Neither were the originals on which this is based.

Tim Luranc says the frets are perfect, and he should know, having been Taylor’s fret guy before they had machines! He has done thousands of fret installations.

Ready to ROCK

I am always happy to discuss this or guitars in general with AGF folks. 619-445-1189. Land line, no text. 9-9 pacific or so…

Happy new year to all

Paul

Wow Paul! Another great guitar from your special stash! And another great setup by Tim Luranc I'm sure. Nothing like being friends with the guy who was Bob Taylor's first employee back in the day and the senior guitar tech at Taylor Guitars for years. Every guitar I've played that Tim worked on has had a perfect set up (including a few of mine- thanks for the connection!)

Good luck with this sale!

That's a beauty, and quite an "ask".
Your specs say it's mahogany b/s, but the Greg K/Wildwood demo is of the rosewood version, isn't it?

Smile Yep…

Good eye Wiseaxe

My OP said:

“ Greg Koch playing a similar axe with EIR back and sides. What a monster:”

EIR being East Indian rosewood. Other specs pretty much the same model.

Of course Greg Koch …. What can ya say? Does he get paid by the note? Hahahaha

My mileage will vary considerably…. and this sounds GREAT when played slowly too!

Fantastic for slide as well.

Cheers

Smile Nope…

Hey Gfirob

I bought it used, and took it to Tim Luranc for a complete inspection when it arrived.

As noted, it had some bridge lift, but sounded so good and played so well I opted to keep it and have Tim reglue the bridge with hot hide glue, and fine tune the intonation at the saddle as well. The reglue is impossible to spot, and done perfectly.

The pickup sounds GREAT, and the acoustic tone is HUGE and fullly balanced.

Case looks almost new too. No funky smells…

Any other questions fire away!

Can you post a clearer photo of the EVO refret job? It looks like the new EVO frets that were used have shorter tangs than the original frets, and there are gaps left in the slots in the fingerboard where the EVO frets don't reach? Or it could be just me seeing things in the photo.

Smile If my iPhone ever syncs…

Waiting for my iPhone to send the pics to my iPad…. Sheesh

In hand, sober, (haha) with my reading glasses on it looks fine to me, but, in the CLOSEUP pics there appear to be some slight gaps, in a few of the frets, as mentioned above, by zerofretwear.

BTW, there is zero fret wear on this, due to the super hard new frets.

It feels great in hand. No fret sprout, and it is smooth all up and down the neck.

Again, Tim Luranc would know if something was haywire, and he commented that this is very nice fret replacement work.

I believe On a bound neck we would not see the sides of the fret tangs at all…

If it must look absolutely perfect, I suggest getting one without the Jescar refret.

It is a well loved and slightly used instrument, but in perfect structural shape and geometry. These frets need nothing and will LAST longer than I will….

I hope this helps

Paul
