Thanks! I will. I ordered it about a month ago. They said 6-8 weeks lead time, so hopefully I'll get it before the holidays. I'll report back.

Well, it's a bummer but this one is going back. I took it to my trusted tech for a once-over and setup. He just called to say that the truss rod is already at maximum so there's no more adjustment available.

Too bad, but this is why I bought it from a store with a 45-day return policy.

The search resumes.

I've got my eyes open for another one. They're out there but not as common as the sunburst and the white ones.

Bummer. Good luck with your search. Now that the bug has bitten you will find it hard to resist! I'm over the moon with mine. It's a bargain, IMO.

I tried a couple out a number of years ago,a maple board sunburst one & a bound rosewood board one in turquoise,i would have bought the sunburst maple board one it sounded tremendous, far better in tone to the rosewood one but I just couldn’t get on with the neck size & radius which was a real shame,I ended up buying a custom shop postmodern journeyman relic which was second hand & cost me £1800 & suited me better neck wise,I tried several other custom shop strats out that day including a Suhr & the EJ strat was tone wise better than all bar the one I purchased, they are great guitars, one of the best sounding strats I’ve ever played

Glad you found the one for you!

I'm being picky and waiting for another candy apple red one to pop up for sale. That said, I do like the Lucerne Aqua Firemist color with the rosewood fretboards. But that isn't exactly what I want so the hunt continues.

I had a rough year in 2020, so “When the going gets tough…”. I think I bought 5 electrics that year. And like any good scientist, had to sort out the conundrum of rosewood vs maple fingerboards for myself. What better than the EJ Strats? I found a Lucerne Firemist with bound RW fingerboard and a white/maple (like new in a CS tweed case). Then I learned that pickups were tweaked to suit the two neck styles, so my experiment is now flawed - not a direct comparo. A Strat player since ‘73, these are both really good. I favor a tweed Super that I built about 20 years ago with parts from Mission Amps.

Of the two, I prefer the RW model and will eventually seek another home for the maple/white EJ.

Other guitars included a Hamer Newport, Hamer Monaco III, and a Gibson Custom Shop ES-335 Historic Reissue. My eGAS is now in remission.

That's fascinating -- I had no idea.

That sounds like a great guitar/amp combo. I've got a Swart Antares Master, so Tweed-ish.

Now you've got me thinking about a Lucerne Firemist one again.

Wow, compared to some of you guys, my eGAS is more like a small eBurp.

Default Found One!

After a few weeks of searching for another red EJ I jumped on this one as soon as it came up on Reverb:

EJ Strat 001.jpg

It's a 2008 in Dakota Red in really great shape -- just a couple of slight dings on the body that you have to look for. I was looking for a Candy Apple Red one but the Dakota red matches my Swart better. Which is very important

EJ Strat 002.jpg

The case is in terrific shape, too. When I unboxed it I noticed that the protective plastic was still on the latches.

EJ Strat 003.jpg

The previous owner swapped out the stock EJ single coils for Joe Barden pickups. The stock pickups were included so I can have my favorite tech change them back if I want. I'll figure it out but I'll say the Bardens sound good and they are absolutely noise free.

The wood on the quartersawn neck has a little bit of flame to it. Also, I'm enjoying the Swart Antares Master. It's a sweet-sounding amp!
