Default Show Us Your Small Canadian Builder Guitars - Northwood Webber OTHERS

Hi folks,

Please show us your small Canadian builder guitars (include pics and comments).

Here are mine:

1998 Webber Roundbody with Rosewood B&S and a Sitka Spruce top.

2015 Northwood M70 OM with African Mahogany B&S and an Engelmann spruce top.

Love the distinct tone of both guitars. They are light weight guitars, super comfortable to play, and I enjoy the somewhat thinner neck.

Pics attached.

THANKS!

You know, I’ve met both Jean Larrivee and Robert Godin, and neither of those guys is very tall.

When you meet Jean Larrivee, in fact, your first impulse is to hand him a conical red hat and say: “Here - put this on and then go outside and stand in the garden.”

So do they qualify as small Canadian builders?

Seriously, I suspect that they probably don’t, but the only Canadian-made guitars that I currently own are a couple of Larrivees and a couple of Seagulls. I owned a nice Beneteau baritone guitar for a while, which was built in St. Thomas, Ontario, but that’s it.

Hopefully some folks with other great Canadian small shop and solo handbuilder made guitars will chime in on this thread soon.

As it turns out I have guitars by 5 different Canadian builders:

David Webber, Small Jumbo, Englemann/Australian Blackwood North Vancouver BC
Jean Larrivee Parlour, Sitka/Australian Blackwood Vancouver BC
Rayco, Round-neck Resonator Maple,
Baritone Weissenborn, Koa, Smithers BC
Michael Dunn, Weissenborn, Douglas Fir/African Padauk North Vancouver BC
And Wade's aforementioned Beneteau, Baritone, Spruce/Adamanan Padauk, Ontario.

But, sadly, no way to post pictures.

I am mid string change but I wanted to show the beautiful headstock of my Kronbauer fingerstyle special. I took some other pics but I dont take good pics so I decided to let Larry's pics do the talking. My guitar is a GC size the same dimensions at a Martin 000 but in Trevor's design, very curvy. If it had legs Id marry it, it is so beautiful. Mine is maximized for fingerstyle: 1 13/16 nut, 2 1/4 saddle (I tried a 2 5/16 once and it didnt work for me), no last two frets so you can play over the fingerboard and 2 1/4 at the 14th (body) so the neck is a bit thinner across the fingerboard. Also it has a slight bit off the shoulders of the neck shaft which makes moving around the neck easier.

I forgot to mention the bloodwood binding, Honduars rosewood bridge (like classical's), ebony board and tanned Sitka top. Also I love the 510 machines. The sound is just Ahh. I was afraid it would be wimpy cause it is smaller than his TDK that sounds so spectacular but it has a strong voice with lots of projection and just the right amount of sustain. Its the best guitar Ive ever owned and I understand why his guitars have such a great reputation. Its a shame that he is no longer building.

Here’s my Webber OM in Sitka and Sapele - it’s a 2009 model and fairly new to me.

I admit to being totally blown away every time I play it and it’s everything I hoped a single luthier built instrument would be.IMG_1392.jpg

Don’t know how to post pictures on this forum, but I have a Halcyon 00-NL deep body that is one of the best sounding guitars I’ve had in my 60 years of playing, collecting, buying, selling.

Incredibly big sound and wonderful tone. Excellent workmanship.

Here's my Halcyon that I used to have. The set was striking which I enjoyed everyday I played it. It was perfect in fit and finish and sound was great for a 00 size guitar.

Here are some photos of my Russel Crosby 12 fret. Russel is located in East Jordan, Nova Scotia.
He just completed this one last month. It's Lutz Spruce over Black Walnut. Fantastic instrument in all aspects of the build quality and tone. I have a hard time putting this one down. I love it. Great guy to work with on a build !
