Depends what sound you want, traditional, modern, finger picking, strumming.
If you can stretch to a Hawaiian Uke get a Koaloha. They are awesome

I'd second a KoAloha if you can stretch a bit.
If you can't then look at the Opio series. https://theukulelesite.com/koaloha-t...ge-kto-10.html I looked around a little bit at my top three choices to buy one and I didn't find one in stock. |

Another option to look into is either a Pepe Romero grand tenor or the tiny tenor (tenor neck but on a concert size body). They come as default with low G wound with strings that he worked with La Bella for the instrument. Just a thought for what it is worth.

A Romero Creations Tiny Tenor would be a very nice uke for sure.

Cocobolo ukuleles
Be aware that all Cocobolo ukuleles are sold BY LOTTERY, so it might take a while to get one. That said, they are VERY good and "should" sell for lots more than they do. They are perfectly built (VERY clean), sound terrific. The ONLY issue I have is I find mine to be a little neck heavy, but in fairness it has a cocobolo neck + the 5 strings have a truss rod which adds some weight. I have never held a regular Cocobolo Tenor, there's no doubt the truss rod is making the neck heavier. Compared to my Kanilea K1 Tenor (Walnut), the Cocobolo is a bit heavier overall, which stands to reason since the entire uke is cocobolo. FYI, Cocobolo is a heavy, very dense, Central American rosewood. https://www.cocoboloukuleles.com/ Here mine, 5 string Tenor:

I had a Cocobolo concert pineapple for a little while; also heavy compared to my other ukes. Like you said, cocobolo is a very dense wood. I agree with your assessment that Cocobolos are sold for much cheaper than they should be. Fantastic ukes for the price that could easily sell for much more.

I really like my made in Mexico all koa Martin T1K. I got it a few years ago from Mim for about $500. Strung up with Worth brown strings. Sounds way better than the ukulele-shaped-objects I typically run across at musi stores.

I purchased a Kelali Koa tenor from Kevin at Kelali (Kevin's late life ukes) in Santa Rosa. It's really lovely, both to look at and to hear. I paid $600 or so, and all of his instruments are handmade. He'd probably do one custom for you if you like, really good value.
