Way too many loud rock concerts has left my ears in a constant state of ringing. Most of the time I ignore it, otherwise I constantly have some form of music (other than loud rock) or background white noise going to mask it.

And yes, alcohol consumption makes it (and other ailments) worse, so I have found it best just to not do that any more.....

As others have mentioned there is no cure...I've been to clinics and specialists, if there was a real cure, I'd be on it...

For a number of years I was able to kind of tune it out and not focus on it, but that became impossible over time...

I've developed a slight hearing loss in my left ear, which ironically is the only ear which suffers from the tinnitus...the tinnitus was actually present long before the hearing loss set in..

I wear a hearing aid now with a "Zen" program which plays soft notes or sounds when I'm in a quiet environment, which helps me not focus on the ringing...it's been a tremendous relief to me...

And I always have a fan running in the bedroom at night which helps me relax and fall asleep...

My long term insomnia is a whole other story...

This is another "Me too."
don't know when my tinnitus first started, but it's been with me for as long as I can remember.

A friend dragged me to the "Rainbow" theatre (Finsbury Park) in the early '70s to see a band I'd never liked called ELO (Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra).
The sound was dangerously high - that even back then I went to the sound desk to comment .

He said -"Ah, you gotta listen to it on the second level man!" which was absolute nonsense of course. my ears rang for weeks , in fact I think that was where it started.

I was a drummer for fifteen years or so, even opened for the Who once, but that ELO gig was ridiculous.

My tinnitus has been a whistle in C# (a key I NEVER play/sing in) but since my cancer treatment last yerar I now have another whistle slightly discordant with C#.

Ho hum, life goes on! (Hopefully).

Yup, ever since I saw Van Halen 12 years ago.

I’m good most of the time as long as I’m busy and concentrating. Really only bothers me late at night when the house is quiet or I’m trying to get to sleep.

I fly commercial a lot. All the ups and downs don’t help my failing hearing or tinnitus.

As Mr. Buffet said I’m “hoping for a better day.”

Speaking of loud concerts and hearing loss......fall of 1976, a triple bill of 38 Special, the Charlie Daniels Band and Lynryd Skynrd in a small theater. They all played full length sets. My ears rang for weeks.

Found it on the web...October 26, 1976 Pawtucket, Rhode Island ,Leroy Theater.

One of my roommates was a quiet kid who had never been to a live concert before. He was physically sick afterwards, and not from the booze.

What a great memory

I find stress makes it worse. If someone finds a cure do give a shout.

Beware of NSAIDs like ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, etc) and naproxen (Aleve, Naprosen, etc), which definitely make tinnitus worse. Old guys like us tend to pop these things like candy and are unaware of the side effects.

Following this thread, being afflicted with tinnitus for many years now.
Mostly I just try to ignore it, but the minute one’s attention is drawn to it —-
Mine brought on by long exposure to noise from V-12 GMC diesels.

Has it for 38 years, likely the result of loud music.

Meditation helps.

There is a product called "Ring Stop": the ear drops worked for me, the pills did not.

It could be worse....a lot worse. Ans being grateful that it isn't worse also helps me.

Same here. I'm 63 and have been annoyed by tinnitus for at least 15 years. Here's a link to samples of typical sounds heard by people with tinnitus. I hear number 9 - - 24 hours a day (well, not when I'm sleeping).

It all started when I was 17 - Led Zeppelin Song remains the Same tour in Providence, RI. Sitting in the side loge about 30 feet from the PA speakers. I was deaf in my right ear for 5 days.

I've been taking B-12 every other day when I remember it, hasn't really helped that I can tell.

Wow, lots of tinnitus sufferers in our midst! I tried the little link with sounds and none are like what I hear. Like I said, it is like the sound you would hear when close or under high tension electrical lines, the big boys. But, it is masked by music, TV, conversation, and being totally focused on other thoughts. I suppose a condition that has no chance of going away, just grateful it is not overwhelming. Best to all

What sucks - maybe the worst - about tinnitus is that for the sufferer there is no such thing anymore as silence.

As far as I know I have always had it. When I was young I thought it was the natural sound of your brain and that everyone had it. I didn't learn I had a condition until in my 40s. It still rings away and I don't pay it any mind. It isn't part of hearing though it seems like it is. Taking advil or asprin will make it worse, coffee probably does too. I actually feel lucky to have not noticed it's onset in the beginning. It is part of my life and doesn't bother me at all.
