I'm self taught.
I can't read or write a single note of music.
I like tuning in open E
The good - everything I play is original.... but I do have a weirdly recognizable version of 'Blackbird'.
The bad - no-one can play along with me and I can't play with them.

i don't do covers as i can't sing like they do nor play guitar and have the equipment they do. so i write my own material. somewhat over 100 and that would include some of what i would call straight stuff and then some would be way out there spacey stuff.

play music!

I never counted them and many are lost from memory now. Guessing, probably around 100. But, there's only a handful worthy of keeping current.

Officially? 6. 3 or 4 others that are unrecorded. I’d like to start to write more.

Default How Many Originals Do You Have.??

Given that I work my day job 12 hours (including commute time) a day, five days a week and I have been writing songs for 10 years, my output is a bit meager. I have written about 15 songs and perform half of those. I have another 7 that are unfinished and am working on those now.

Best,
Jayne

I don't regard myself as a songwriter, but there are about 60 of them + instrumentals.

Like anybody else's, some are better than others. I was trying to figure out the 25 best for a CD project and couldn't decide. Some are throwaways, play them once in public, then pretty much forget about them. Others are topical, like the one about what kind of decorating Martha Stewart might have done to her cell - they get forgotten about as soon as the subject stops being news. But the rest... It's a hard choice, one I have put off as I am now in the midst of research and writing a book, one kind of started by one of my songs.

I've been playing for 52 years, and I have just over 200 original compositions, in various styles. (Most are songs, some are instrumentals.)

Most are not very good - the earliest ones are the crappiest obviously - and I wouldn't want those to ever see the light of day. But even the ones I'm most proud of I never (or hardly ever) perform - because I'm not good enough as a singer. That is, I don't write totally beyond my vocal skills - I write within my limited range - but other people would be able to sing them better than I can. (I have done it once or twice - where I have audio recordings of those performances, they make embarrassing listening.)

Of course that doesn't apply to the instrumental tunes - I've performed some of those with jazz groups, and I have recorded a few of them, mostly with me doing all the instruments (real or midi). Here's one (it would be nice to have a few more views notched up!), https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDpPDjZ5RDM

(They are all written down in notation, even the crap ones, as it seems to make them look better . I wrote four in the first week I owned a guitar, and still have the charmingly naive adolescent pencil manuscript.)

With my upcoming 5th album, about 75 copyrighted/registered/released. Another couple of dozen recorded but never released. Dozens of others either forgotten or never fully completed.
