Default South Of Your Heart

This was the result of a writing challenge to mention all 4 compass points in a song. It’s another for the 80+ year old crowd at a weekly jam who only like ancient country.

I can never figure out the direction your love’s goin’
It always seems to change with the way the winds’s blowin’
You keep givin’ your heart then taking it back
When it comes to love you’re all over the map

First I’m south of your heart
North of your mind
East of your arms with you
West of mine
When I’m south of your love
I’m north of your care
East of your touch and
Lost out west somewhere

My dad said it best there’s lots of fish in the sea
Why do I think you’re the only catch for me
I still think it’s worth waiting for the day
You’ll give your love and you’ll be here to stay
You’ll stop giving your heart and taking it back
And your love won’t be all over the map

I won’t be south of your heart
North of your mind
East of your arms with you
West of mine
I won’t be south of your love
North of your car
East of your touch & I won’t
Be lost out west somewhere
