Default Grassy Funk Lesson

Here's the video portion of a lesson I did for the new issue of the German magazine Akustik Gitarre http://www.akustik-gitarre.com/2-14_...14.1020.0.html Unfortunately, at this time, I think the tablature and notation is only available in the physical magazine

Here's the original tablature I submitted. Doesn't look as nice as the magazine, but the notes are all there. I think

That's very interesting, Eric. Thanks… I can make use of that. Nice lesson.

This one's right up my alley, although you lost me a bit on the Cmaj7 arpeggio over the D7. Not to worry, I'll plow on regardless. Thanks.

The notes of C maj7 are: C E G and B

C is the D7's b7
E is the D7's 9
G is the D7's 11
B is the D7's 13

It's pretty heady stuff. The good news is it doesn't really matter if you understand why it works. Just remember the recipe: The notes of a major 7th chords a whole step below (2 frets) the dominant chords you're on. So another example would be if the band was playing a G7 chord I might be thinking F major 7th...

Incidentally, if you can find the Dec 2010 issue of Acoustic Guitar magazine, I did a whole lesson in there on superimposing the notes of one chord over another. And they did a great job of editing it and notating it -looked like real music!
