Default Meet Shelley!

I think this name best describe my concept Strat-build. Just a few more small details and she'll be done!

Hi Roy,
It’s a Schaller 3D-6, and I’ve used them several times. They allow string spacing adjustment, which is nigh impossible to find ready made.

I wish they were a little more simple looking, but they work well and are generally well made.

Thanks, Darwin!

On June 13th I thought it was going to be easy when I did a pencil rubbing on some painter's tape:

But no.......

So I was gun shy until Oct.10 when I finally figured I'd actually use the bobbin sans pole pieces:

Think about it forever, and then cut once. Success!

I'm normally a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to guitar appearance, but that I like! Very cool.

Sweet look! Kind of a retro-DuoSonic look with the two pickups...

Looking forward to seeing it complete and hearing what she'll do,,,

Howard, really? Shelley, as in tortoise and Mary Shelley? Good one...

Beautiful! I didn't realize there were bridges with adjustable string spacing available.

Dru,
Not enough of them, and I’ve looked!

J,
Shelley as in tortoiseshell, of course.

I really had not thought about the fact that people routinely call these builds 'Franken Strats', but hey!!

I'll take being accidentally clever, any day!

Regards,
Howard

Hi Kev,
I had never seen it either, but it just seemed right.

The issue, apparently, is being able to have the coils close enough to the strings for fullness. Alnico pole pieces, on the other hand, sound better further away.

My first impression is that the neck pickup sounds amazing, and the bridge pickup sounds okay.

I may remove the bridge 'lifter' ring to lower the whole bridge, and then put a reverse shim in the neck. This would allow the poles to be lowered, effectively bringing the strings closer to the coils.

I built it with a homemade micro-tilt system, alas.....

In any case the guitar is very, very comfortable, very light weight, and has the visual appeal I imagined.

Regards,
Howard

Absolutely beautiful guitar! I like everything about it. Love the neck plate.

I have a Surf Green '62 AVRI Telecaster (Shelley the Tele), named after my wife 'cause she let me buy it.
