Default Les Paul junior cost explained?

I just bought a later model LPjr for its fat neck and electronic simplicity. Single P-90 pup. Now I see Gibson re-issued the jr for a whopping $3800!!!

Can someone explain to me how a mahoghany plank with a primitive p90 screwed onto the top can POSSIBLY command more than a LP classic, or even a vintage jr?

Scratching my head...

It is absurd.
The used market for a 2018 LP jr is $800
On Craigslist locally. I paid $1300 for my 1958 3/4 LP Jr. About 6 years ago. They are now pushing 3k.

The magic words here are Custom Shop Historic. You can get a perfectly fine Gibson U.S.A. for far less or pay for bragging rights and the Custom Shop Historic label. There are always customers who will pay a premium so the upper tier goes on. It is the same as the Fender line. In fact, it is the same as the main acoustic guitar manufacturers as well.

I researched and looked for about three years, finally deciding on a Harley Benton DC LP Jr for $189 and about $25 shipping from Germany. I am satisfied.

I guess thats it, Bob. I understand quality woods, components, a degree of hand-crafting...all that adds up to around two grand or so...about what the fender broadcaster 60th anniversary model sells for. When the reason for the model was a no-frills, basic adornment, minimal gadgetry...I find it hard to justify a huge price tag above that 2k. Theres just nothing more there! And thats fine. Its why I love that simple little guitar.

I agree with Bob W; however, that's a lot of $$ for a Les Paul Junior.

I ALWAYS buy used whether it's an acoustic, electric, or bass.

I personally can't justify the new prices of most guitars, EVEN if I can afford to pay for them.

I found an almost mint '01 Gibson LP Jr. a few year ago for $400.

I see no shame in buying used guitars, and I have for many years.

I DO have to audition ANY guitar I buy in person, and I won't under any condition, buy or sell online.

Here's my '01 Jr.

anything with the word "reissue" and the price goes nuts.

and it aint just gibson, look at the fender "reissues"..

anyone who wants to keep the cost sane, and not into the wholw reissue thing, well... just walk on by lads..

Gibson custom shop guitars are generally better built versions of the regular production models, with lighter woods, thinner finishes, and a little more handwork. Are they worth the extra money? To me. most of the time yes, but I own two regular production models, 2015 Firebird, and a 2015 Dave's Special SG (limited production), and they are both great guitars. As for Juniors, the new USA production model Jr's seem to be pretty good guitars and I wouldn't hesitate to get one.

Yes, the link you posted is for the regular production model for $1500, which I think is perfectly reasonable. What justifies more than doubling the price? P90 is a p90. Finish? I guess if they sell the lot, that justifies the price. Thats cool...but not for me.

That is correct. I do get it.

Why should they discount them if they are selling like hotcakes?...

These types of things are forerunners to the inflation we will see in the near future.
