Morrissey Build/Ziricote/Sinker Redwood/Video recording
I recently completed a guitar for a AGF member and would like to document its journey from start to finish. So this will be a fast build thread.
So here are the cliff notes. Enjoy. Patrick We started with a really nice Sinker Redwood top image1.jpg IMG_0275.jpg Paired with Ziricote B&S's IMG_0227.jpg IMG_0242.jpg Added A Spalted Maple rosette IMG_0304.jpg IMG_0313.jpg Bracing IMG_1593.jpg IMG_0273.jpg Body Rim construction IMG_2808.jpg IMG_2810.jpg IMG_1590.jpg IMG_1589.jpg Body is assembled and ready for binding IMG_1599.jpg IMG_1602.jpg That's all for now, stayed tuned - more to come soon. Thanks for the "WOW". It is a a beautiful set for sure - and super stiff and lively. It was similar to the Tunnel 14 Redwood sets I have. So it was a good start.

Part 2
Time to cut some binding channels and purfling ledges. IMG_1607.jpg The binding cutter I use is from LuthierTool. Wonderfully engineered - love this tool. The bearing references the sides but it can be micro-adjusted to finesse the cut widths. The cut depth is adjusted from the router. Additional bonus is being able to use a compression spiral cutter bit. Which leaves a very clean cut. Sorry for the advertisement. On with the pics. IMG_2455.jpg IMG_2458.jpg IMG_2453.jpg IMG_2459 2.jpg BRW bindings with the addition of spalted maple purfling along the top. I created a bunch of spalted strips that I applied into the empty channels (Teflon strips removed) Similar to inlaying shell to the perimeter. Using Black CA glue it all blended quite nicely. IMG_1791.jpg IMG_1805.jpg IMG_1842.jpg IMG_1802.jpg I created an engraft with the spalted maple to match the purflings and rosette. IMG_1616.jpg IMG_1839.jpg Finally done with this phase. IMG_1933-2.jpg Next up will be the mortise and tenon neck set. Thanks for following Patrick |

Thanks Tom. I really sweated this purfling choice and how to complete it without making a mess of it. In the end, fitting the pieces in the channels as if they were shell was the easiest. And thank goodness the result was great.

Masterful job. Amazing how well the spalted Maple purfling goes with the Redwood.

Part 3
Dialing in the neck set and routing the mortice and tenon (sorry, I didn't get pictures doing that operation) IMG_1838.jpg. IMG_1837.jpg There were a few 5 piece neck choices I had on hand - these two were the finalists. In the end the walnut/maple/walnut on the right was the winner. Left is the blank glued up and the right pic is after the CNC routing. IMG_1885.jpg image1.jpg Fingerboard with my Diamond markers IMG_1857.jpg. IMG_2030.jpg Routing out the fingerboard extension mortice. Showing this operation on another guitar and the final result of the Sinker Top and neck. ALWAYS scary using spinning cutting tools on the guitar body. IMG_0668.jpg. IMG_0669.jpg IMG_2032.jpg Next up is the Peghead Inlay design Thanks for following |
