Default Pickguards for Taylor Grand Pacifics...

Was wondering if anyone had purchased a pick guard for their new Taylor Grand Pacific. I know that I can contact Taylor to find out if they've made them available but thought I'd check with my AGF buddies first...

I asked about using one of their static universal pick guards and was informed that they would not cling to the finish (must be a glossy finish for the thing to stick).

Was also informed that pick guards for the GP's would be coming soon. The rep also stated that the finish was harder than a typical pick guard (which I have a hard time believing).

A Greven Tortis medium teardrop would look great on these. Available at LMI.

I recently purchased a 517, and had this custom pickguard made (Holter Pickguards). I had it styled to replicate the R. Taylor Style 3 pickguard shape. I haven't actually applied it to the 517 yet. I tend to prefer pickguards and am a pretty heavy strummer. What do ya'll think??

To me these Grand Pacific models have more of a Gibson than a Martin vibe, so I think my own inclination would be to track down a firestripe pickguard for it. But that one you have does look good.

Oddly enough Taylor decided to put the pick guard on the 317s - is this an aesthetic decision I suppose? If that were true, I could understand not putting it on the pretty honey burst builders editions, but they leave the guards off of the plain builders editions also.

Default Pickguards for Taylor Grand Pacifics...

The Holter looks great ... but then, I’ve never liked Taylor’s pick guards (I put a small teardrop style tor-tis from LMI on my 322 12 fret)

I think the answer is these guitars, except for the 317 are builders editions, which are spec'd by the builder. The builder did not want pickguards. I was at the roadshow recently and Taylor said they are only building 2000 of these. When they are gone they are gone and the vast majority are already gone. I am seeing next year the GP's will be across more of the product lines, perhaps even Summer NAMM will reveal a new option!

I personally like the look without the pickguard. I think that the standard Taylor pickguard would look terrible on the Builder's Edition guitars because of the rounded edges theme. Seems like it would visually clash. I think it looks great on the 317 though!

Hmm...so now I'm wondering what I will do long term. I rest my pinky on the pickguard to steady my hand. I have noticed that this causes really bad noise on the matte finish when recording. I wonder if there is a temporary option that could be put in that area just for recording.

Didn't I read that you bought a 317? Everyon one of those I've seen had the Taylor guard on it already.

I put a Taylor shaped one from Holter Pickguards on my 517 sunburst and I think it looks great. I don't think it clashes with the rounded edges or rounded shape of the builders edition
