Led Zeppelin : How The West Was Won. Page has a plethora of tones throughout his albums but Live this is his ‘59 pushing his amp to compete with Bonzo’s massive drums.

Sex Pistols: Not enough is said about Steve Jones’ aggresive tone from his Les Paul Custom.

The Smiths Louder Than Bombs ( Johnny Marr )

Stone Roses: Stone Roses (John Squire)

Cocteau Twins: Blue Bell Knoll ( Robin Guthrie )

Big fan of Clapton during Cream, Billy Gibbons, to David Gilmour too but 70’s punk and the post punk era had notable guitar heroes as well.

Indeed. "Jump" is a banger of a song. It is right up there with Back In Black or Rock You (Like a Hurricane) IMO. Eddie is also a major reason why I play guitar in the first place and even on this forum. 1984 is obviously of course not the only great Van Halen album, but it's connection to MTV, fashion, and the iconic Frankenstrat really defines rock music for the decade. Super nostalgic album for me personally.

Ironically Ted Templeton didn't much like the song Jump and still doesn't. But I bet Van Halen does Ca-ching!

These five albums blew my mind when I first heard them and significantly shaped my view of what is possible on electric guitar. I consider them foundational and essential:

1. Jimi Hendrix: Are You Experienced. Before hearing this record, I liked different guitarists, but none of them MOVED me like hearing this.

2. Yes: Yessongs. When I heard Steve Howe playing jazz and country-inspired licks on insanely complex arrangements, shifting tone from sweet to roaring, the universe of possibilities got much bigger instantly.

3. Pat Metheny: Bright Size Life. I had heard him a year before playing with Gary Burton, but his approach on this trio record is monumentally original.

4. Gong: Expresso (US)/Gazeuse (Europe). Hearing the maestro Allan Holdsworth for the first time, I thought it was a saxophone for the first 10 seconds. People are still trying to figure out his unusual harmonic approach even today.

5. Dixie Dregs: What If. These days, Steve Morse plays with legacy bands like Deep Purple, but in the 70s and 80s he was a double threat guitarist AND composer. Every time he played a solo, you could hear the evolution of his ideas in real time.

History of Eric Clapton - Double album, early '70s, maybe an import. Fast version of Tell the Truth made my head spin.
Best of the Moody Blues - I dont think they get enough credit.
Doobie Bros - Captain & Me - loved that frenzied ka-chunky rhythm
Dylan - Blood on the Tracks - acoustic guitar that bites
