Does it make sense to own both a Martin HD28 and OM28
I currently have in my stable a HD28, Taylor 214CE. Also have a Fender electric. I play a lot of fingerpicking, but as a beginning guitarist for little over a year, I play different genres including, classical, folk, CW, bluegrass etc. I flatpick, fingerpick and strum. I’m eyeing a new OM28.

I own both a D28 and OM28..The D has more depth....the om more balance. If pushed to lose one, I would push back

No reason why not. The HD-28 and the OM-28 are quite different in character, and they are both lovely guitars. The HD-28 loves to do blues-rock, bluegrass, and country twang, while the HD-28 especially likes melodic fingerstyle folk and folk-rock. Either one can play anything (of course) but they pull you in different directions.
I suspect that, over time, you will find yourself playing the OM-28 and ignoring the Taylor 214. They are broadly similar but the Martin has richer tonal variation and more subtlety (which is not surprising - it's solid wood and twice the price after all). That's fine: the little Taylor is a decent guitar and readily saleable, and if you are not playing it you won't miss it.

Absolutely! Get the OM-28 and never look back! At one point I had a bunch of Martin 28 models until I realized "redundancy" was a real word. But I should have kept the OM. There's a special sweetness you can't squeeze out of a dread.
As "Tannin" said...the 214 might find it's way to the classifieds?

I own both a D-18 and a 000-18. Both sound great…both sound & play differently. I’m pretty happy with what I have right now…
Although if I keep those two, I’ll probably add an EIR guitar next. |

I think it does. I own a couple of dreadnoughts (D-35, D-45) and I also own 3, OM guitars (Martin 000-28VS, Santa Cruz OM/PW, and Collings OM1ADB). I think an HD28 and OM-28 would make a great classic pair! - Glenn

I am just chiming in to reiterate what everyone else has said. Those two would make a lovely pair!

If you plan to record, as a strummer the dread might be more boomy than you’d like. The OM probably won’t be.

Yes, it always makes sense to own more than one guitar -

So you have one of these, and you want one of those. That’s how it starts. Before you know it you’re gonna need a bigger house to hold all your guitars

Actually my passion a few years ago was classic cars. I kept oscillating between one and two with space being the problem. Still have two, but only one I would consider a collectible. This hobby takes less space but maybe more work[emoji3]

I try not to be redundant in what guitars I buy, and I see no redundancy between the OM and HD-28, other then the 28 branding
