The most annoying bs to come out this year is Mercedes saying how fast Ferrari is in the lead up to every race - then killing them on race day.
Is F1 paying them to say that because if we all know Mercedes is going to win every race then viewing and race attendance figures will drop? Most we can look forward to this year is watching Lewis spit the dummy when beaten by his team mate .... like 2016.

That is more than just annoying. I can't tell whether it's both Lewis and Toto, or mostly, just Lewis who is full of it? Toto when interviewed, seems pretty genuine in his comments/praise/ etc.

I believe the next upgrade for Renault will include a reversing camera for Ricciardo's car.

Well, of course I'm following.
A less than eventful Azerbaijan race, and looking forward to Spain tomorrow. I'm currently watching the Indy500 race, rarely screeened in the UK. Is this the usual standard of presentation, with adverts and commentary clashing, periods of radio silence, missed incidents, and pixilated on car camera footage. What went wrong? Also, appalling discipline in the pits, unsafe releases, fuel fires and cold tyres being fitted (so slowly) and tyres rolling across the pit lane. I'm also seeing a lot of empty grandstands - has this formula lost a lot of popularity? It certainly makes you appreciate the presentation and technology of f1, but can someone explain all this to me?

It's an Ameri'kin thing.
I take it you are watching a "re-run" as the race usually coincides (more or less) with the Monaco GP? Or, are you watching practice, where anything goes?

You were watching an "IndyCar" GP race not "the 500", that's on May 26. But none the less I think many American fans would agree "IndyCar" is not up the level of F1

So, will they be doing what 200 laps going round and round? I guess it's all about reliability and concentration?

After watching the Spanish GP I have declared that Mercedes is not really a part of the F1 "fraternity" and going forth, the F1 field is comprised of 9 teams plus 1 demonstration manufacturer.
Funny how Lewis was lamenting his "horrible" qualifying run, and then 'manage" to do what he did today. If not for Mercedes, these races would actually be fun and interesting. I did like how the team (Mercedes) honored Deiter during the podium ceremonies.

Now they both go to COTA we have a direct comparison. F1 laps at 1.32.32 whilst Indy takes 1.46.6.over 14 seconds slower. However, MotoGP are around 2 minutes around the same track so as long as they are not all on the track at the same time they will all be exciting to the fans and boring to the rest |

I had to google COTA .... I see it means the Austin track, or "car park racing" as its called by some of the drivers.
I don't really understand why it is called "the Circuit of the Americas" as there are so many better tacks in Canada, Mexico, Brazil etc. Regarding Mercedes dominance, if you look back over the years of F1, there has often been one team which had dominance for a year or more. That's one of the reasons why they change the rules and regs so often. Even poor Williams who is just about managing to get two cars on the track used to be winners once. Certainly there was a Ferrari era, and a Renault era and Mclaren Lotus etc.

It’s just a massively different concept in racing. There’s a ton of reasons of course but the simple answer can be found in team budgets. F1 is stratospheric. The Indy Series not even in the same Universe. With that kind of money comes the best of everything and F1 for sure and on every level represents the best of everything.
