Hard to believe that, with Dylan's incredible volume of work, that there aren't more songs posted in this thread...

Heck, I could probably put up another 10 of his more obscure tunes, as I am not interested in doing the ones that "everybody" does... Dylan tunes are so much fun, and usually very easy to "re-harmonize" grooves, chords, melody... pretty much everything but his lyrics.

I have long felt that writing fairly simple songs that really "hit the mark" is the MOST difficult thing to do as a songwriter... and Bob Dylan absolutely excels at that aspect of songwriting!

I don't think a Dylan thread would be complete without a rendition of "Knock'n On Heaven's Door" so, here's my rendition!!

Nice job on that one, Gil! I've always loved that tune, and your voice fits it very well...

Thanks for posting!

Bob, that is just an outstanding job! Great playing, singing and harmonies! I think it's better than the original.

That's not the way I'd do it!

I need to get some means of recording myself - but then I could no longer pretend I can play or sing

I recorded another "Dylan tune" As I understand he didn't write this but recorded a version for the movie natural born killers.

Hope you like it!

You'll have to wait until next week for my contribution when I video my open mic, I'll be doing Things Have Changed - wanted to pick something a little-more recent than the usual 60s/70s songs, but not anything where his voice was nothing but unintelligible gravel!

Hey John, I just stumbled across this. Very nice indeed! I think this recording is even better than the first one you did. It is interesting to hear what you are getting out of that little recorder with no post processing, etc. Thanks for sharing.

Perhaps you should consider making a separate thread for the song? I almost missed this one in here.

I also wanted to say kudos to everyone who has posted in this thread. I enjoyed listening to all your efforts!

Well, here is a Soundcloud file of a rather weird, uptempo, thumb-thumping version of the great Dylan song All Along The Watchtower:

https://soundcloud.com/jonprown/all-...the-watchtower

Played on a Mark Hatcher cutaway Greta guitar. Thanks for listening.
