Thanks everyone!
Deft, it is 14 fret and 25 inch scale with 1 25/32 nut and 2 ¼ saddle. Essentially the same as my other Baraniks except for a neck that is 0.6 inch shorter. |

Sorry I'm a bit late to the party, but, man, that's going to be a beauty. Beautiful woods, shape, and design, really impressive. I think Baraniks have a very unique and original aesthetic. Anyway, congrats! How long will it take til finish?

Closing the box
Those who know Mike will agree with me that he is a cool and relaxed gentleman. But I wonder if he has a dark side too and this is how it manifests – the dreaded clamp torture. In a separate room (so you can’t hear the guitar calling for help?) he subjects the box to the guitar equivalent of about twenty bear traps. He says this is to help close the box, but I wonder…..
Anyway the deed is done now. Box is closed and as of today the purfling is about to be started. Black lines plus buckeye burl, which I am looking forward to seeing! Quote:

Yes, that would be an interesting comparison. I wish I could say come over, but I live in Chile at the moment. I will fly north in a few weeks to pick up my Saddle Pal. Anyway, you won't have to wait much longer, I hope that these two weeks will pass quickly!

We both have long flights to pick up our guitars but in different directions!

I just saw your location, even further away from the rest of the world than me but I guess Australia is more if a guitar friendly land. I once brought a Collings to a local luthier here, big mistake. That's why I love the idea of an adjustable neck. Anyway, may this beautiful Baranik be in your hands soon.

Applying sealer
Here are all the main parts of a 00. Mike has made an old style pinless bridge for me, to match the 00 with my other Baraniks.
I like how the sapwood on the sides is thin at the end and widens out around the waist of the guitar. And with a wenge layer on the inside, these sides are going to be nice and rigid. Another shot of the box. You can see that for a 00 it is deeper than normal (actually ¼ inch deeper but to me it looks more). Almost time to add binding, bevel etc. but first Mike applies a sealer to the wood… And boy, does it make that koa pop! I appreciate Mike’s guitars for their tone and playability but I have to say he chooses some very pretty woods too! Here is the box after the sealer has dried… And one with the edges routed to take the binding More soon! |

The neck coming is together. Here is the fret board being glued in place.
And the burl and resin face for the headstock. End graft is in and binding is going on. Mike plans to add colour the maple binding once it is in place. The arm bevel has been installed. Here it is waiting for the glue to dry. And again, with the tape off. Getting closer every day! |

Second picture because of the Inca tools in the background. Quality stuff from Switzerland with a cool quotient that's off the charts. I always think "serious woodworker" when I see those tools. Congrats, by the way! Steve |

Yeah the koa almost goes "tree" mahogany with the wet sealer. As to the Inca tools, Mike is amazing in that he has stuff that makes other luthiers drool and he also has "repurposed" stuff that shows what a creative scavenger he is! |
