Default New recording, old tune

Been experimenting with recording. Here is new recording of an older tune of mine, "A Kiss In The Night".

Very nice Rick...both the melody and aripagios(sp?) blended beautifully and they gave synergy to each other...
Any lyrics with this piece? Great job brother...

Very nice playing as always, Rick! I listened with headphones and the guitar has a very forward presence with a fairly narrow stereo image (as opposed to a wide separation). So, I'm guessing that you used an xy or similar mic set up for this rather than the ever popular spaced pair? The tone seems to emphasize the midrange, and I don't know if that is a consequence of the guitar of mic positioning. Care to share what your setup was on this one?

Thanks guys. Bob, it was a wide spaced pair. I was trying out a new mike combo (TLM 103 and KSM 141). Perhaps the narrow focus was that I delayed a track some to get the best right left phase alignment. That warmed up the midrange a bit.

If interested how recording is so variable here is the same guitar sounding somewhat different with a different type of song, different mikes, mike position (spaced pair also), and different reverb. http://dcoombsguitar.com/Guitar%20Music/Rebecca.wav

Interesting. I like the sound of the guitar better in "Rebecca" which sounds slightly wider and richer (warmer bass and sharper highs). I listened to your comparison files in the "record" section but didn't comment there. I think the KSM141 is louder which yields the impression that it is "brighter" than the Gefell. The stereo image on the file with the KSM141 sounded louder in the right and the Gefell clip was noticeably shifted to the left favoring the TLM 103. Thanks for sharing the mic comparisons and your experiments with recording.

Rick, that was a joy to listen to. Nice finger style and very clear coverage of the notes. Glad you revived this one...sure sounds nice. What kind of pickups are you using and what guitar? Thanks, Ed
