Artisan Guitar Show 2018
I just got back about an hour ago! I really enjoyed the show. I didn't meet John Detrick, but a big shout out for a great production! Also to the Best Western there in Harrisburg for a great venue, and their staff and John's staff for making this happen!
A special thanks to Bob (iim7V7IM7) for hanging out with me and showing me his amazing Sexauer guitar! AGFers, my name recollection can be very bad, but it was great meeting with some of you out there! Hopefully you'll drop by and jog my memory. I can recall names if I see a face, and I should have taken notes... I wanted to also take time to thank the many luthiers that had taken their time to chat with me! You guys are the best!!! But first, it was an honor to meet a living legend in jazz, the great Jimmy Bruno!!! Not a photograph! Artwork by Peter Maier, done with auto paint! Tim McKnight gave me these shades to wear before I held this guitar... possibly to protect my eyes from the reflections on the amazing finish... The beautiful guitar of Tom Doerr: He calls himself Yen, and had two really nice guitars at the show: Todd Johnston of Oracle Guitars. One cool dude to hang with, and some awesome guitars. Thanks for the hook-up! Amazing jazz guitarist David Gilmore, playing Woddy Phifer's archtop! |

Ian Kelly, with this amazing guitar!
Tyler Robbins... one very cool guy and incredible builder! This guy should be a motivational speaker! Benoit LaVoie has so much energy, it's contagious! And his guitars are pretty amazing too! The work of Michel Pellerin... who did NOT have a harp guitar with him this time! But this incredible guitar caught my eye. Another great guy to talk to. Yet another legendary player... Stephen Bennett! I love the work of John Osthoff! Thanks for having a beer with me, and hanging out! Fred Tellier, showing off his totally cool parlor! Hanging out with Rick Hearne and Ben Berdoulay of Hearne Hardwoods... I was able to resist temptation, this time... but that compression curl koa was so sick, I think I'm going to have nightmares about it. Really beginning to feel my wallet shrink...
This is a custom baritone of Rick's, made by Michael Millard of Froggy Bottom Guitars: The incredible archtops of Cris Mirabella. Another guy I have to thank for the extended conversation! Some great stories we shared... It's amazing how many great players I got to meet... if they only knew how much I sucked at playing... Tim Farrell, and acoustic/electric builder Bill Mitchell... For you Dead Heads... An amazing guitar by Emile Gervais... He unfortunately only had one guitar at the show - he got turned away at the border and had to leave two guitars back in Quebec... but what he did have was spectacular! We're all familiar with the work of Adam Buchwald of Circle Strings. This octave guitar was just sooooo cooool! My man! Michael Kennedy, Indian Hill Guitars, with these impossibly cool f-hole flat tops! Some really nice bowed instruments from... Help me here, brain fart... |

John Monteleone. what else can I say? Thanks John for taking some time to talk with me!
John Slobod of Circa Guitars... with something traditional, and something modern! Great hanging out with you! Hanging out with Michael Greenfield, one of my first guitar-builder "heroes"... Thanks a million Michael! This guy can flat-out PLAY! Ted Ludwig, with Bob's Sexauer guitar! Some incredible Australian blackwood there, and incredible sounding. More so in Ted's hands than mine! The amazing work of James MacDonald! Some great sounds coming from the Sadowsky table... I'm missing some pics; don't know where they are on my phone, but wanted to mention Sam Guidry, Julian Sublet, Stuart Day, Dave Ryer, Tim Bram, Ken Parker, Bill Comins, Mirko Borgino.... Hope I can find these pics and post them. A quick shout out to Baker Rorick! Great seeing you, my friend, and looking forward to Woodstock! Also Richard Eyman (Otterhound) for helping me out this weekend... Hope I didn't completely butcher your names! It really is a special feeling to be there in such a positive atmosphere! Hope I didn't miss anyone there; if I did it was not intentional I promise! Looking forward to my next trip down to Harrisburg! |

Great stuff, Louie - thanks man.
I had a thought about going at the last minute but it wasn't really practical. Your photos gave a nice feel for the show.
