"I'm Not In Love" is a song by British group 10cc, written by band members Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman in 1975. Written mostly by Stewart as a response to his wife's declaration that he did not tell her often enough that he loved her.

This song is dedicated to my lovely wife, Mimi!!!

Fun work, Rene. Two notes about the song:

On the original, the main background instrument was created by recording forty-eight voices (copies of the band members) singing each of the notes of the chromatic scale onto a stereo analog tape machine and then splicing those tapes into loops. That alone took three weeks. A guide track of the whole song was then recorded onto the 24 track recorder and the twelve loops of tape were fed through the mixing console, each assigned a fader, essentially turning the console into a keyboard instrument. Adhesive tape was placed across the lower end of the faders preventing them from closing all the way, and that is the sound you hear at the beginning and end and in breaks during the song. Then the band gathered around the console and "played" the faders along with the guide track and performed a prearranged score to create that ethereal choir in the background. The results are considered one of the most innovative techniques ever used in popular music. The other innovations were the fretless bass solo, the use of the reversed music box, and the spoken word over the bass solo.

This song forms a fascinating historic locating pin in my own history: It was at its peak on the U.S. charts for three weeks in June of 1975. I had just graduated from high school and was hired by a summer camp on a lake at Ten Mile Tennessee to work as a maintenance/operations man. There were four of us doing the job who shared a cabin. I took a small stereo with me and slept with its radio tuned to an adult contemporary station. One night I woke up, startled, with a girls voice whispering in my ear. That voice belonged to Strawberry Studios secretary, Kathy Redfern, who was drafted to whisper those lines, "Be quiet. Big boys don't cry," over the bass solo. I told the tale next morning at breakfast and it created much hilarity amongst the guys at the breakfast table.
