Default Todd Rundgren - '21 R&R Hall of Fame Inductee....

YAYYYYYYY! Ok I'm biased because Todd was a fellow Upper Darby High School grad, like myself and Jim Croce. Todd was in my brother's homeroom, and I used to see him in the cafeteria before school during my sophomore year. But he's also shown just how incredibly musically talented and multifaceted he is since the 1960s when he wrote and performed with Nazz. He's lately performed with the Cars and Ringo Starr's All Star Band. He has also produced amazing albums for Meat Loaf, Grand Funk Railroad and others. In addition, he stood in as the defacto father for Liv Tyler before Steven Tyler stepped up the plate.

What can I say except congrats to Todd....

All that, and he qualifies as a proficient C programmer.

We used to go to Atlanta to see him every year or so. I've seen
him rock out, be a showman, sing to canned music while riding
a merry-go-round surrounded by the audience and do all his
songs like calypso music wearing a grass skirt with a coconut
on his head ...

He’s an amazingly good guitarist. A wizard, a true star.

Iron Maiden, my favorite band, was nominated but didn't make it in.

Randy Rhoads got in for "Award for Musical Excellence"! Fantastic. One of my guitar heroes.

I was shocked to see that Carole King and Tina Turner are being inducted this year.

I would have thought they'd gotten in many years ago.

I'm glad to hear Todd made it. Listening to his Nazz recordings (which I still do often) it's clear that he was a studio innovator, even early on. No surprise he has been recognized not only as a great musician but as a producer as well. One of my favorite albums of all time, Skylarking by XTC, was done with Todd in the producer's chair.

Saw him a few years ago at a local club where basically he came to play new electronic music and none of the "hits" the crowd was wanting. Then saw him again, where he did the exact opposite. I can admire him for not milking his past and doing what he wants, and his stage presence is flipping the bird to the pandering music business.

Seen Todd perform 40+ times. His latest music doesn't appeal to me at all though.
He doesn't give a rat's you-know-what about the R&RHoF. Fan votes don't count (he was in the top 3 last time he was nominated, but didnt' get in).
Look at some of the non-rock people inducted already - it's all about (or used to be) Jann Wenner and Rolling Stone mag. Does anyone read that anymore?

Congratulations to Todd on his belated induction. The R&R HOF Class of '21 is top to bottom a deserving group.

To an earlier comment. Carol King and Tina Turner were both previously inducted. Ms. King for songwriting w/ her ex husband and Ms. Turner as Ike and Tina.

Yeah, instead we get “Green Day” six years ago.
The HOF is .... (place pejorative comment of your choice here).
I choose “zero credibility.”
YMMV

I saw Todd in concert once.

The only word I can use to describe it is "bizarre"...

My brother was in high school homeroom with Todd for three years, and he'd probably use the same adjective...

Obviously the name is very familiar but I have not followed him in a while. The local entertainment reporter made a lot of odd comments among them:

Don't know if Todd will actually show up and/or perform because of his comments about awards and in light of his health issues.

Can anyone fill me in?

Rundgren, who has a son living in Cleveland, has not yet indicated if he'll attend this year's induction ceremony, scheduled for Oct. 30 at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland. "True halls of fame, to me, are for retirees and dead people, because your legacy has been established," he said earlier. "I'm too busy working to worry about my legacy -- and plan to continue working until whenever."

Don't know about his specific health issues, but he'll be 73 in a month and has been working/rocking his tail off since the late 60s. So there's that...

George Carlin made similar comments when he received a Lifetime Achievement award while still performing/alive...
