Sierra Hull is a brilliant young musician. I was fortunate enough to see her on tour with Ron Block (Union Station) a few years ago and she is some picker!

In actual fact Fender introduced the instrument as a "4 string electric mandolin" (no model name!) in their marketing catalogs.

"Mandocaster" is the name adopted by players, not Fender.

In actual fact, both names are presently valid. If you prefer to defer to big company marketing campaigns, you'll like "electric mandolin" instead of Mandocaster.

If I preferred big company marketing campaigns then I'd refer to the Eastman Mandocaster, as they are the only company to reserve "Mandocaster" as a trademark.

Fender has never produced a "Mandocaster", even though the term is certainly the common vernacular for the instrument. Fender made these for 20 years, sold a bucket-load of them, and never once added "Mandocaster" to the headstock in the same way all their other instruments are identified by name. There's Broadcasters, Telecasters, Stratocasters, and zero Mandocasters.

You felt the need to correct my "error" of calling it an electric mandolin (i.e. "In actual fact...") when that is exactly what it is.
