I often feel I have to tweak the brightness/contrast in my photos to get wood grain or character to begin to hold up to reality. Not so at all with this guitar, and these photos have received no adjustment at all! This wood plays well with light. |

Here is a great example of a hard to get a realistic image guitar. Maybe the sun will come out by the time the frets are in.

I love the binding on the neck - it sets off the ebony beautifully.

Joe Helm's P-D is playing well, and he came by yesterday to try it. Finding nothing lacking, he will pick it up on Tuesday after I have cleaned it up and installed end pins. I will likely find a moment to take some pics before then.

Today I delivered the Pernambuco Dread I shared about over the last couple of months. Joe Helm is off to Nashville in a couple of days and plans to take to the guitar along, so some of you may get a chance to see or play it there. Joe had very specific targets for me to hit on this guitar, and we're both feeling pretty good about my accuracy. The guitar is too new to have fully inhabited itself, of course. Here are a couple of pictures, and there are more at the guitar's page on my website.

One goes out, another begins!
This will also be a "Tree" guitar. This time an OM featuring a Florinett Swiss "Moon" spruce alleged Mastergrade top. Whatever else one might say about this stuff, it is the creamiest white spruce I've ever encountered. And, much as I want to ridicule the hyperbole, it is actually quite stiff, unusually light in weight, near absolutely perfectly quartered, and that is why I paid more for it that any previous spruce I've acquired save one top from Old Standard several (15?) years ago, which I don't want to tell you any more about. |

You are a busy man, congrats on the delivery of what I am positive was another great guitar. Heading to Nashville, can't have a better musical town for a guitar to hang out in than that! I bet he loves it.

I am ready to put braces, not that I've made them, into the Tree OM. The back is pictured from the inside and sanded to 150grit, while the top is shown on the outside with the rosette nearly cleaned up.
I don't like to say any top or back is "mastergrade", because to me that just means it is the master's best pick from a pile of high quality material, which describes all of my tonewood on my non-WRX guitars, which this is. But . . . this top was offered by the most prestigious of the European spruce supply houses, Florinett Tonewoods, and they had graded it as their "MA" which means mastergrade. It was silly expensive from my POV, but it is the best EuroSpruce I've seen offered. EVER. And then I went through their 200 top pile at the show I attended in Cremona last fall, and I found the 2 MA tops I thought best, as well as 4 that were "merely" AAA. So, this top ought to qualify. |

The shadow in the picture makes it a non-mastergrade

For "MasterGrade" photography you're going to have to visit Mark Hatcher's many threads. You'll find my guitars hold up to close scrutiny better than my photography skills.
