Your pick for a beginners youtube song lesson
Good morning! And it is a beautiful morning here in Chicago. I was hoping to get your pick for a youtube song lesson, for a beginner, that you thought was good. Is there a lesson that sticks in your mind as being well explained/taught that made it easier to learn. Or perhaps you are a teacher with a beginner lesson you are proud of. Thanks for the help.

Hi:
Check out Marty Schwartz. He really has a lot of good songs for beginners to play that he teaches I feel quite well. He is a bit goofy at times but really knows his guitar and how to teach you how to play songs.

There's a guy, he's an Aussie or a Kiwi, that teaches REM's "Losing My Religion," an easy song to play and has a good rhythm. Check out the cover of it done by the Korean dad and his two kids, posting YouTube vids as Music Family.
You'll want to get a uke to mimic the mandolin, as the daughter does.

I like Marty too. They both remind me of many years ago when friends taught me songs.

Also check out fingerstyle song lessons by Kirk Lorange on You Tube. He also has more on his website called Guitar for Beginners. I am working through a few of my favorites, "Killing Me Softly" and "Both Sides Now."
He does very nice arrangements. |

The first song I learned to play that was recognizable was "Wish you were here." It is the perfect beginner tune. Anybody can learn to play that classic riff even early on. The first time you do you will grin. It just feels cool.
There are a lot of video lessons on it out there but I thought these two by Marty Schwartz were pretty good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzxMeQgtyYE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgUI9M3egVM The only thing about these I would say is that for the solo, while there are not a lot of bends on this, it was easier for me to slide them. Does not really require much of a change to the videos. Just, where he bends, slide up a couple frets and you are good. |
