Educate me about Lowdens
For some reason I always associated Lowden with fingerstyle playing. Are there Lowdens that would make good all around guitars for strumming and flatpicking in addition to fingerstyle?

I can’t comment on other Lowdens having only played one (the one I own) but the F shape is a great all rounder and equally suited to fingerstyle and strumming or flatpicking. Sounds particularly beautiful in DADGAD and has excellent volume and clarity.

Honestly, any of the Lowden models could potentially work just great for strumming and flatpicking. As always, it comes down to the unique voice of each individual guitar. The Lowden Richard Thompson Signature Model is certainly voiced to be a terrific all around versatile guitar, but any F model or O model could easily work, depending on how the given guitar responds to the various playing styles you noted. duff Be A Player...Not A Polisher |

I had an O22c and it was a great fingerstyle guitar but didn't shy away from a flat pick either. Even with the Cedar top. It never had any issue with headroom when strummed or flat picked.

I think my F388c sounds very special played with a flatpick. I hardly play fingerstyle (but hope to develop some skills). I play mostly Celtic, old time, and Bluegrass with a pick. Strum a load of old songs when friends get together. Typically have mandos, guitars, banjos n fiddles and sometimes a bass. The Lowden sounds great to my (our) ears - especially on the Celtic. Among my guitars, I like to play the Flammang and the Santa Cruz more than the Lowden when this group plays more bluegrass, old time, and rags. Their sound in the mix just sounds better there. Personal preference. I don't tend to play the 00 or the PJ much when all those instruments are in the room. Bigger can be a little better then. All that said, I would not hesitate to play the Lowden if I were playing it and these folks all stopped by. It would be great. It's a real favorite when we aren't grassin and old timin. Great plugged in too, but I rarely play plugged in.
