Confirmed to have a MAP of $1499. Still in my opnion too much for a foreign built Martin Road Series instrument. Also I have mixed feelings about Martin building their innovative new products outside the USA. Perhaps that is the right choice for this model

Is being able to play all the way up the neck really going to revolutionize acoustic guitar performance playing the way Martin is touting? I've never really felt this was a major hindrance on my typical cutaway. I really don't see this model as such a game changer as their videos are claiming.

IMO all Martins are comfy near the nut, but this new SC-13E plays easier than traditional Marins on the middle frets too, not just frets 13 & up.

To me it seems like a very good concept.
I think you're right, and I think they'll sell boat loads of them.

Yes, I respect that!

From what I have read and heard from videos about the back of the guitar is that the SC-13e is made from solid Khaya and a thin layer of Koa top and bottom. I wish it were possible to compare the tone of this combined with an all-solid Khaya on the back of the instrument.

Not going to happen, but it would be interesting. I doubt there would be any difference in tone if any?

I really like the concept and specs but not the sound. It sounded weak and somewhat shrill to me. I predict it will cease to be made soon but will continue to be referred to from now on much like the Gibson oddball based on science. I forget the series nomenclature.

Did you own one? What did you plug it into?

I got one from a bricks and mortar music shop in the the UK delivered today.

Quick first impressions:

First impressions (on unboxing, 30 minutes playing it in my office) are quite positive.

- It's a great shape with lovely proportions, in terms of playability. Really sits comfortably, invites you to get around it.

- the Neck is everything they say it it is in terms of playability. I really like the carve, the way it's turned/helixed.

- the Action out of the box is close to perfect, for me at least. Low, but with room for strumming.

- Subject to checking intonation properly I don't think it needs to be set-up for me. I appreciate it's strung with 11s. Not sure if trying 12s will change much. I like 11s fine but I will certainly try a few different sets of strings on this.

- The tone is very nice, but hard to evaluate where I am right now. This room has poor acoustics in that guitars sound "dead". I'm trying to remember what my 000-28 sounded like in this room when I unboxed it. In truth I will have to get this home to properly evaluate tone.

- One thing I can say right now, is that the balance across the strings is fantastic.

- I havn't plugged it in in case that isn't obvious.

So, interesting to say the least. I got this thinking I might sell my D17M. That's a heck of a nice guitar, but I don't seem to play it much these days. The SC13E will have to really come up to standard over the next couple of days if it's going to stick.

Albeit from my first impressions of just about an hour playing with it after unboxing, this is very noticeable. Certainly the new design gives physical access to places you probably never thought about playing before, but it really enhances the general playability around 5 - 10. And I did not think my "traditional" Martins suffered from any lack of playability - the opposite.

I can really see myself having a use for this guitar and I think it will improve my playing generally in the area of soloing/leads.
