Sapele for martin style 00-28vs
Building a Martin style 00-28vs. I'm using sapele for the top, back and laminated sides. Looking for recommendations on thickness of the top and back. Reading a lot about sanding for sound, but would like a ball park number to aim for. Thanks

I am building a Martin like size 0 but with a Honduran Mahogany top . As Mahogany and Sapele are in the same family, this might be similar. When thinning the top, it passed the wobble test at around .010 " thick, maybe a couple thou less after some more sanding. The back I did at .009" and sides at .008". These are pretty typical measurements for many woods/guitars. I did do an englemann spruce size 0 top that was more like .0105" and sounds great on an Osage Orange body.
I am unsure what will be style 28 about your build if you are using all Sapele instead of rosewood and spruce? |

The only other thing to consider for a Sapele top, is weight. While it's very similar to Mahogany in many regards, it is noticeable heavier. It takes more energy to drive a heavier top.
