Default Chernobyl mini series anyone?

Is anyone watching the Chernobyl mini series on HBO?

It's excellent so far.

Just watched the second episode.... Really well done.

The various administrators and party officials all firmly in the “oh, it’s nothing to worry about.” Camp, while the physicists know from the get-go whats going on and what needs to be done.

“We need your permission, Mr. Gorbachev.”

“Permission? For what?”

“We need to kill three men.”

I first saw Jared Harris as “Jones” in Fringe... Excellent there, excellent here.

Started it, pretty intense and dark, as expected. Wasn’t quite in the mood but seems incredibly well done. Will take it up soon.

Was gonna start this thread. Great well done show with great cast and acting. I was very young when that happened but I remember.

Excellent dramatization of a VERY serious, potentially horribly, unimaginably disastrous accident. A reminder that we let the nuclear genie out of the bottle, without knowing how to control it. The Fukushima Daiichi accident response shows how we’ve improved ... but it’s still a disaster waiting to happen.

It’s really well done. It’s given me so much more information about how bad it was, compared to what I remember from when it happened. Scary to find out that it could have been much worse.

It's next on my list... maybe begin this weekend. Had to binge my way through "Murder Mountain" on Netflix first.

I'm hooked. Watched the 1st 2 episodes last night. Very chilling and well done.

I have a friend that lived in the Ukraine and was sent home from work soon after the accident without explanation. She went home and sun bathed all that afternoon. Not long after, she developed a brain tumor. Hard to say there's no connection.

I don't watch TV at all. I have an extensive background in nuclear power. Reactor operator on USN submarine S5W plants and instructor at the S1W prototype. 15 years total active duty and reserve. Worked at the USDOE nuclear facilities at Hanford, Oak Ridge and Rocky Flats. Been at a 1200 MWe BWR for the past 22 years as an engineer, instructor and operator. I currently hold a senior reactor operator license at my plant. I've been a shift manager for 7 years. I have no patience for sensational media.

You haven't seen it, so how do you know it is "sensational media"?

A core event such as Chernobyl is indeed sensational. I bet if you watched it you might recognize yourself somewhere. Just sayin' ...

My 18 year old son watched episode 1 and recommended it to me.
We then watched both episodes together.
Very well done; dark ... as it should be.
Looking forward to the rest.

I watched Chernobyl Diaries on Netflix thinking this was it. After a minute or two, I realized my mistake. I’ll have to check this out later.

I watched episode 1 last night with my 13yo daughter, who just learned about Chernobyl and nuclear power plants this spring in her science class. Really good, very dark... planning to watch episode 2 this evening.

Thanks for the heads up. Hadn’t heard of this one. I remember when it happened.
