Default Game of Thrones

OK, that was the most intense hour I have ever experienced on TV or any movie...just saying, holy cow.

It was more like 90 minutes and I could barely breathe! And now I'm exhausted!

Agree completely with comments above. I do think in aggregate there was at least a half hour where I couldn’t see anything going on. My wife thinks that’s an “old man” complaint

Lots of complaints about the darkness.... I suspect the director was going for that “fog of war” feel.
Some report turning off all your room lights helps....

The Dothraki charge with the flaming swords, and their gradual winking out... Very effective.

HAHA, thanks I watched it alone and was complaining to myself that it was dark, then I thought I was just being old, which maybe I was, but at least I was not alone in that regard.

Pretty amazing filmography or cinematography whichever is correct. I will be watching it again at some point.

Big wow from me. Thought it was going to be too much battle at the beginning but I like how they mixed it up. Arya...total bad *****.

Can’t wait to see how this plays out now. The Jon Snow/Daeny armies are all but wiped out and Cersei sits in King’s Landing with 20,000+ troops and what is likely the Iron Borne coming along (though that is debatable).

My new battlecry....
Weeds on the lawn? Not today!
Too much rain to get outside? Not today!
Bananas turning brown? Not today!
Wife wants to go out to dinner? Not today!
12 string won’t stay in tune? Not today!

The darkness helped the tension build though because you couldn't quite see what was happening and that's how it would've been for all those at Winterfell too. The whole thing was truly a directorial feat of greatness!

Watched 30 minutes of the first episode of season 1, got bored, never went back. Wrote it off as "not my thing."

Now I'm thinking about it again because I honestly don't think I've heard more people talk about an episode of a TV show in my life...sounds like last night's episode was really something.

I think you need to give it a couple of episodes to see if you'll get drawn in, and if you do, you'll have 8 seasons ahead of you! Fun!

I agree that low visibility, created by both smoke and dim lighting, was a big issue. I do understand that it was a night battle with winter "conditions" caused by the enemy leader. But why spend all that money on real and CGI battle scenes and then make the action and characters mostly impossible to discern?

I think it was only the first 20 minutes or so that visibility was compromised. I was frustrated at first too, but then realized what the darkness was doing to impart the feeling of really being there.

Agree on the darkness. I'm still not clear if both or any of the dragons survived.

Watching the preview for the next episode and Winterfell's desire to invade Cersei, how many troops can they have left? 100?

I know, you need a playbook. Vanity Fair posted an article this morning titled: Game of Thrones: Wait Who Just Died? if you want to find out go to this link for a summary.
