Changed strings on Rainsong CH-WS1000ns!
I've been wanting to do this since I purchased it about 4 months ago, all I can say is I wish I'd done it sooner. It made a world of difference to go from what they had put on, Elixers I think, and replace with my Martin Retro light gauge strings. I just can't believe what a world of difference it made. It seemed a little muffled, lacking volume, depth, and treble. I changed the strings and it came alive, has the volume, depth, and treble I wanted out of it. It just shows that changing the string type on a guitar can really help with changing the tone.

Interesting. I just tried Retro lights on my Rainsong CH-OM and they sounded dull and lacked volume. I only gave it a few days, though. I probably should have given it more time. I put on a set of Martin Flexible Core phos bronze and it bounced right back. It’s interesting how different guitars (and ears) make such a big difference.

Yes it was strung with the original strings which I thought were elixirs? But if they weren't I just have to say whatever they were the Martin Retro really turned the sound around for me.

Most RainSongs are strung from the factory with Elixir 80/20 Nanoweb lights. Why is lost on me- put bright strings on a bright guitar?
This is copy/paste right from their website: Elixir #11052 Light Acoustic Guitar Strings. 012 / .016 / .024 / .032 / .042 / .053 My favorite string ever on my Shorty was also Retro lights, and the more I played them the sweeter they sounded. A punchy midrange and pleasant brightness great for lead work. I'm a fingerstyle guy but found they excelled in strumming too. They last just as long if not longer than Elixirs! I had them on the guitar at one point for 4 months with daily play and LOVED them. Good choice.

Weird,
I pulled the 80/20 Elixirs off because they were "too trebley"

I also tried John Pearse nickel strings (which is a similar composition to Retros) but didn't like them at all. However, the John Pearse 80/20s sound pretty good on CF- go figure. I just recommend you try a bunch, but if you are like me you will always go back to Retros

I find that strings make a bigger impact on my CF acoustics than on my wooden acoustics, anyone else have similar experience? It's like the CF amplifies the different tonal characteristics of the different types of strings.

Strings have become a major preoccupation on this forum. The general consensus seems to be that CF is more sensitive to string type than wood. That might be because CF is stable and feedbacks a more accurate string sound. Since wood shifts around with humidity and temperature it might be more difficult to get a consistent sound with any particular string. Just a guess.
