Larrivee L-40 (new model)
I am not sure if a thread was started on this yet but Larrivee announced the
L-40 a few days ago. It has a 1-3/4" nut width, which is a huge plus in my books. I have wanted a D-40 for quite some time but the narrower nut width just doesn't do it for me. I am excited to try this out. I just wish they would at least offer a gloss top upgrade. |

Sorry about that! I just assumed that most people were familiar with the 40 series and the L shape! I also saw on Facebook that Larrivee is offering sunburst/iced tea finishes on their 40 series as well. I really hope I can get a chance to try the new L-40R/M. It took forever to find an OM-40 and D-40 and I haven't seen one since.

http://www.larrivee.com/pdfs/Custom%...Pricing_v6.pdf So, for a gloss top L-40, start with the list price of $1798 for mahogany (or $1998 for rosewood), and add $300 for the gloss top. This is your new list price... and dealers will then discount that price according to their own policies. The actual upgrade cost of the gloss top itself would probably come in at or under $200. I've had good experiences with Notable, Trinity, and Wildwood (Ohio) with Larrivees (and their pricing), but I'm sure many more could make a fair deal. |

So the difference between the 40 and the 03 line is that the bracing is different?
Has anyone A/B'd them, and can explain the difference? |

I own the OM-03 and played quite a few of the 03 series. I have also tried the new D-40 and OM-40 M and R models. IMO, the Larrivee description of the new 40 series bracing is right one. To me, the tone is more open with even more bass than usual with Larrivee guitars. It's just a more traditional sound but with the same Larrivee balance. The 03 series are fantastic but they are just a bit more balanced and you don't feel them as much in your chest when strummed. |

The 40's also have some cosmetic "vintage" appointments like the squared headstock, open gear tuners, and diamond fretboard inlays. After having the 03 series stay mainly the same for a looooong time, it was a nice way to freshen up their look and sound.
Great comment about the custom runs... my first 40 series was a brand new limited edition with figured mahogany (normally an expensive upgrade) and it cost LESS than an identical standard guitar. I think I've seen a few gloss tops with walnut back/sides floating around out there. |

Be nice if they would offer the L-40 in a mahogany version. Wonder why that don't?

They do offer the L-40 in mahogany but for some reason they don't list it on the website.

I've been playing the OM-40 for about a month now. Very happy with it. It's a treat.
