I had read about your condition on another forum and was quite shocked even though I don’t know you, you seemed very youthful from your posts. Hopefully there is full health care and physiotherapy in place to help with your recovery - I hope you will play guitar again - it will take some time. There is a history of stroke in my family - it’s a tough situation.

Take care

While serving in the Air Force my (then) 37 year old brother suffered a massive stroke. After two solid years of hard work he was able to walk and speak again. Don't give up OP. The journey may be long and hard but you CAN do this!

My 45 year old stepson had a meaningful (but not massive) stroke about 19 months ago. Right side weakness (dragging foot, weakness in hand and arm that led to him dropping things, facial droop, articulation problems when speaking, some trouble swallowing, etc), and a lot of difficulty regulating emotions for a while. We were wondering if he would ever be able to work again. He has been having great success in a sales job for over a year, and 4 months ago, he FINISHED an Ironman in 15 and a half hours! So I agree with others, don’t give up. The road back is long....but you may find that you can recapture a lot more than you think you can if you work at it consistently and don’t allow he moments of frustration and discouragement to derail your efforts.

Praying for the best possible outcome for you.

Remember Tom Petty's story about when he broke his hand. Dr. told him "you're not going to play guitar anymore, son."

His reply?

"F that!"

It sounds like the stroke my dad had. Is the left hand limp and pulling in, arm bending at the elbow, in a sling? I took him three days a week to therapy to work on those, but I seemed to care more than he did, so I don't know how much he could have recovered, but if the same thing were to happen to me, I would start playing slide.

Just yesterday I read an article about Jerry Lee Lewis. He had a stroke last year (I believe). Lost use of his right hand. Went back to the studio recently to do an album but had no plans on playing piano. He was positive his right hand was useless. When he laid it on the keys he could play! Nothing short of a miracle...if it happened to the Killer, no reason it can't happen to you...just keep living, Kid...you never know...

4 months in the hospital was rough and 4 months in a nursing home was depressing but being home now is TERRIFYING!

A sax player I used to work with had a massive stroke at 45. Airlifted 100 miles to a stroke center in NYC. After a long rehab road and hard work on his part, he returned to his teaching job and is playing sax again. His speaking voice is ever so slightly softer and he has a nearly imperceptible limp.

Keep up the hard work, keep that fear at bay, and keep a positive attitude. I know it's easy for someone to say that who isn't in your shoes, but please know that we're rooting for you! You never know - you may be playing again down the road!
