Default Titebond / Titebond Extend aging

I've just used some of my hardly-used bottle of Titebond 'extend' and the glue left the bottle starting to suggest it was tending to clotting. My 'regular' bottle of Titebond, within six months of the same age, squeezes out nice and liquid. Looked on the Titebond web site and they suggest that the 'extend' shelf life was half that of the regular.

So....is there a threshold that when reached I ought to discard my 'extend', regardless of how much is left in the bottle (and I guessed that the more glue in the bottle, the slower it would age)? And am I seeing that point when I notice the glue leaving the bottle not-quite-free-flowing?

Thanks, folks.

Toss it when it won't pour freely, or has those long coagulated strands in it. It's just not worth taking a chance.

Glue will store for much longer than the manufacturer's stated shelf life when stored in a cool, dry place.

I like Titebond Extend (not Titebond II extend) a lot, BTW.

Default good description

That's a good description of what is working up - - - 'long coagulated strands'. Not there yet, but the texture is different from the regular Titebond. I'll take the advice. Glue's cheap. Both bottles (same size) were stored in the same place in the basement, coolest place in the house, and the bottles were closed but not sealed in an outer container.

Thanks very much.

How long ago did you buy the bottle, and what pull date is on it?

A cool basement is a good place to store aliphatic glue.

Default purchase date?

I have no realistic idea of when I bought it, but the bottle's date code has the digit '2' right after the 'A' (A209100025'). That I infer to mean that the bottle was filled in September 2012. I didn't have the wits to mark the bottle with a purchase date.
