I just got an email from Stew Mac regarding this sale, and I immediately ordered Ervin Somogyi's two volume Responsive Guitar set for $139....

Just curious. What is your interest in those books?

Although I have no interest in actually building guitars, I have an academic interest in how others approach it and enjoy reading about it...

Thanks for your response.

In my opinion, there are two "iconic" sets of books. Each set contains one book on design and one on construction. One set is by Somogyi, the other by Trevor Gore. Similar books but diametrically opposite approaches presented.

Somogyi's books are largely qualitative in their approach while Gore's are largely quantitative in their approach. Somogyi's is a passionate, more philosophical discussion, Gore's is technical, succinct and mathematically precise. Both are very well presented for their respective content. Somogyi's approach, in my opinion, tends towards "feeling" and subjectivity while Gore's tends towards science and objective data. Each largely represents the state of the art for their respective sides of the coin.
