Default NewUPedalDay

I bought a used Boss Compression Pedal. This is my first impression so take it at its weight. I love it. The first thing I played, first chord, once, I loved it. Incredible tone. I love the 'attack' knob. Same with the sustain knob. Love it all. 1st impression.

I wanted a compression pedal right out of the gate. Sort of. First I bought the Boss RC-3 Loop Pedal and then I bought a Boss TU-3 Chromatic Pedal Tuner and today I bought the used compression pedal. I think I paid too much. Its old. It seems to "all be there." But how would I know. I've never been near one before. Cool original used pedal with Velcro on the bottom. I learned something.(did you too.?) It hooked up nicely to the tightly woven rug beneath me. wink. Why do I want to paint it.?? I love color. And new. Its blue so I might paint it .... blue. And white and black. Maybe. Any opinions I'm listening. It is a Boss pedal. Apparently they need nothing. Everyone says the same thing, which is what.??..... "They're built like a tank."

Right away the tone was different in many ways. In a vibey way. Great. I should have marked the settings. I'm quite sure that was the best tone I got out of it. But hey, they were all good.

There's noise. Perfect. The pedal makes everything dynamic. Wow. Perfect. I love that. And anyway, it's a stomp away if you don't like it. This pedal is going to improve original music. And whoever's music it is, needs all the help it can get. Thank you very much.!

Impressive. First impression.

Congrats on the Boss compressor. Is it this pedal, the CS-3?

The Velcro on the bottom wouldn't be stock, it would have been added by the previous owner. I've done that before for my pedal board although I switched to zipper ties now.

Good call! I have a CS-3 in my rig and it is 'always on'...first thing my guitar signal sees before it goes to the rest of the rig. I'm using modeling and this makes all the difference between a tone that's "very close" to tube sound and one that is "spot on". It's very transparent sounding, although can get a bit noisy if hyped up too much. It's the same pedal I bought about 25 years ago...still going strong.

Incidentally, I've read some good things about Boss' newer CP-1X compressor, although have not tried one. I've read that it is quieter than the CS-3. To be honest, that hasn't been enough of an issue for me to worry about trying to upgrade. I did try a Keeley...very close to the CS-3, but more expensive and not quite as transparent. It's a little "warmer" or "furrier" sounding, almost like the old Electro-Harmonics 'Black Finger', which isn't necessarily a bad thing, depending. I just like un-colored sound of the Boss better.

BTW, the CS-3 sounds great with my bass too...I wouldn't be without it. In my book, a good compressor is a requirement!

I call a compressor my "special sauce," and that is exactly the effect it offers me: the sponginess of a good pushed tube amp.

Yes Dru, that's the pedal. No question the previous owner put the velcro on the back. That was sort of my teaching moment when I mentioned it in the original post.

Since playing electric it seems my writing and thoughts sometimes get scrambled. Pobbly the attack knob coming through the headphones. Tonight I might go into some distortion and bring the roof down. No pun intended. My heart goes out to the people of Tennesee. Golly....

Cool Bob. Special Sauce. My playing doesn't deserve a title like that but, the Gretsch and the compression pedal love to shine out of the Roland Cube Hot. They are all in love. Everything sounds good right now. Loving it all.

Thanks Max..... This is day 4 and I haven't turned it off yet. I'm thinking this pedal gets overlooked by many. I could be wrong here but I'll say its the type of pedal that doesn't shine on a YouTube review. Like a delay would or a tremolo pedal would.

Next month I'll probably add a delay pedal or more likely a Tremolo pedal. I'm quite happy with the sound right now. Makes it fun.
