El McMeen kills it on a Franklin 12-fret Dread.
El McMeen kills it on a Franklin (Nick Kukich) 12-fret slope-shoulder dread...one of the finest guitars I have ever touched...

Hey Larry THANKS. Until this very moment, I never even imagined a 12-fret dreadnought from Nick... now I have to go through life imagining the ultimate of the ultimate!!
(but seriously, thx for posting! )

It's so great to see El again. I wondered what he had been up to lately. And I don't think I've ever seen a 12-fret nor a sunburst Franklin.

El emailed last week that he had GAS for another Franklin . . . . Seems like he succumbed or was at least trying it out.
Beautiful! Tim |

Agree. That was nice.
For me the quality of a player often comes through more in the music that is felt "in between the notes" more so than in the obvious places, if that makes any sense. And that's always harder to do in a slow and sensitive ballad like this one. El is a great player. Thanks for sharing.

This guitar (mahog coupled with spruce of some kind) has been around for a while, and Nick asked me at a Healdsburg (or some show) to play it, and to relate the experience to El...maybe 2011? I found it to be an extraordinary guitar, and if my hands permitted playing on a full scale length guitar, well, *I* would have never let it out of my sight. I made my recommendation to El, and he did indeed get ahold of the guitar...loved it...but didn't keep it for very long. I'm glad it's back in El's hands...and I don't know if there are other slope-shoulder dread Franklins out there...but this one is certainly to-die-for. Quote:
El has mostly been puttering around his home in Pennsylvania (as of the last few years), and making bathrobe-videos for friends and family! Again, I don't know if this is the only example of a 12-fret slope shoulder dread Franklin out there...it's *so* very great that I can't believe that Nick has only made *one* such guitar. I have seen a few other Franklins w/sunburst, however... Quote:
Tim, El also mentioned to me his interest in getting another Franklin, and I reminded him about this guitar, which I think of as one of the "holy grail" guitars that I have touched...and sure enough, El knew where it was, and now it's back in his hands. Permanently? Probably not. Excellent deal, for now...and if El does decide to let it go at some point, well, even *I* might be tempted...that's how good it is. (hope this finds you well)
