Default Unique Strings Question

I have a Godin XTSA with two humbuckers and a piezo bridge for acoustic tones. What strings could best capture the acoustic guitar tones from the piezo as well as pick up the magnetic signals from the two humbuckers? I am especially interested in the piezo tones being picked up but the humbuckers are used a lot too.

Well, you need nickel strings for the magnetic pickups to work. I’d suggest that you try John Pearse Pure Nickels and D’Addario Nickel-Bronze strings to start with. Martin Retros might be another you should try, as well.

Hey Hotroad, I would stick with electric guitar strings for that guitar /humbuckers. Acoustic strings have different properties than electric strings and won't work as well on an electric guitar.

When I had a magnetic soundhole pickup for my 12 string, I had great success using the GHS Whitebronze strings...

My tendency is to go with Dru on this one, however...

Not familiar with your guitar, but my PRS Hollowbody with piezo used 11's with a wound third string.

Curt Mangan round-core Monels are packaged as 'Electric/Acoustic' strings.

I second the Mangan Monels suggestion. Fantastic strings.

I have a Godin LGX3 that has the same piezo as yours. 3 duckbuckers on the electric side. I use elixir electric strings nanoweb 10-46 and I also use a daddario 3rd string wound in the same gauge. I wish that elixirs were 3rd wound. The 3rd string wound helps with that acoustic sound.

I have had pretty good luck with D’Addario jazz strings, usually with a wound third. I’ll change that to say very good luck.

The piezo will tend to produce a slightly more brittle sound on an electric set up. If you want the warmer tones to show through you can use Nickel or Gold strings to capture that sound. (Optima Gold's would be good for this)

EQ will also matter a good deal in regards to balancing the acoustic tones and magnetic signals.
