Given the options, I would have picked the first set. But I knew you were saving the best for last. Beautiful set man!

Holy Molly... I feel poor with my 3 sets of Brazilian of my stash hahaha!

Incredible woods! Thanks for sharing that with us!

GORGEOUS wood!! WOWSER!! I've never seen so many pics of amazing wood in one place in my life. Talk about getting the GAS going...or maybe it is the "WAS" that is grabbing me .

I really like the choice .

Default After the visit and the next day

So in my other thread (linked in OP), I mentioned that Tom just "happened" to have a couple of last minute tickets to the Pistons home opener.

Unfortunately the tix were apart from those of he and his buddy so we agreed to meet at the half for a photo. He even missed seeing Cee Lo to meet me - again what a great guy Tom is.

Since my first Doerr is the ONLY Maple guitar I have ever even liked, let-alone loved (still do) AND it is the first Maple guitar Tom built (Don't worry Trevor I saw yours in process), there was only one place for the pic - Maple Wood BBQ!!!!

The next day my road-trip buddy (also named Chris) had a stop to make in Kalamazoo. Now I had only been there once when I visited the old Gibson (now Heritage) Factory. I joked with him that we could go and he was willing, but I assured him his time was FAR better spent with his client. So while he "worked" (hauling in 4 lg pizzas for lunch) I said I would just "try to find a place to get a burger and a beer."

When I saw THIS sign, I thought I was in the right place.

So I ventured inside to check it out...

When I saw the NEXT sign, I KNEW I was in the right place!!!

It turns out that the service was attentive and friendly, the burger was great bar fare and IN FACT - the beer was as cold as my in-laws (and that ain't easy!)

(mods just pm me if its over the line, lots of typing in this one - all in good fun)

Last pic from me until the actual build thread in a little less than a year (I'll link back and forth). When I got to Tom's, I realized I had forgotten to take out any cash. It turns out that Tom actually likes it when people make a CASH deposit to RESERVE a set of woods. Go figure ... Fortunately Chris keeps a slush fund and was able to cover me so I could consummate the reservation.

Chris and I have been friends since 1972 and you might imagine that quite a few lunch tabs (and sports tix and just about everything else) have been exchanged in places ironically similar to Nob Hill. So the next day I repaid him and then had to take a pictorial "receipt" to safe-guard against yet another senior moment.

PAID-IN-FULL

Thanks, Tom for your generous hospitality and time. I am certain that you will craft an amazing Solace for my 50th.

To the other AGFers... Tom's shop is surgically organized. His Braz stash is crazy and there's more (oops, I wasn't supposed to tell). His next Maple build for TAMCO is a beauty, and we didn't even have time to look through his other species. Further he has sweet Swiss, Sitka and Sinker (is that alliteration or sound-suggestion?).

I'll wrap this up by again saying that I have never been in to Maple but he nailed it. Further, I have never liked Sitka OR Indian RW. He had a Solace in the latter combo and I would have bought it on the spot were it not sold (and the fact that I had NEGATIVE cash on me). Amazing.

Last, (okay I'm bad at wrapping up) He has a Trinity in Cedar and Wenge that is stunning. It plays as well as my PRS and has a warm full sound. I think it is his only "in stock" guitar. He built it for Memphis. I think Dream Guitars has a few of his used. I have no idea why they are in stock - they are priced really well (imo) No affiliation with DG, just a PSA.

Until next time, thanks for reading.

Chris

Default okay one more

Thank you Eric. Thank you everyone for all the positive comments. This going to be a long, long ride. I have been contemplating a 50th B-day guitar to commemorate half a century on this beautiful planet.

Tom just sent me these last pics that forgot to take when I was there. It's my B&S set with the piece of Brazilian we selected for the fingerboard.

Lot's of BRW on this one, I think Tom mentioned Ebony trim and appointments. Going for a classy, modern look.

Once more, Thanks to all for the "support"

Beautiful Braz......classy indeed! Tom does classy and then some!

Congrats on a super road trip and wonderful connection with Tom. The wait is long, I agree ( and mine was only 7 months till the start!). Thanks again for the fun pics!

Fred

Congratulations Chris on a fantastic set of Brazilian. Tom's guitars made a lasting impression in Memphis, and his sense of style and fit and finish is remarkable.

Default Not dead yet

Life has taken some turns for me over the last few years but... this build has been in the background through it all. So Tom has this scheduled for early next year. Reposting this as a reminder, the build thread is coming (in ‘20)

Happy picking!

Excellent! Now you can snag it, Tom!!! Hahaha. Like you need another....

Which brings me to the old joke:

"how many guitars does one guitar player need?…

Just one more!"

This stash is insane, and the build will be a vicarious thrill ride!!!

Cheers

Paul
