Talking Furch Yellow -- NGA2WL

NGA2WL "New Guitar Almost 2 Weeks Later"

I am just so enamored of this guitar. It feels like every day is new guitar day.

It's a Furch Yellow Master's Choice, except that I lost the "Master's Choice" designation because I wanted a 43 mm nut and not a 45 (I'm a petite gal with hands to match and just love the 42.7 nut on my previous guitar, a modest Ovation Celebrity). To add to the heresy, I had the shop immediately switch out the Elixir 12-53's for 10-47's (phosphor bronze nano webs).

The guitar is made with beautiful cedar over EIR and the sound of this lovely object is just golden to my ears. Rich harmonic overtones and a playability I haven't encountered before. Sustain...so much sustain, it's silly.

So, yeah, I'm in love. Also, I'm in love with my darling husband (a non-musician) who went behind my back while I was in the try-out room with different Furch guitars and switched our order from a Blue Plus cedar-mahogany to this.

It took 5 and half months from ordering day to delivery (with a few tense phone calls to the guitar store that ended up with several calls from my husband to the individual responsible for Furch distribution for all of France, which is where I live). But it's here now (for almost two weeks) and is an added joy among others in my life.

I apologize for the reflections, but the darn thing is just so shiny (window with clouds above, bed and Hiscox case in guest bedroom below).

That is a beauty! Congratulations. I recently had the same model guitar over a weekend, except it was a 15-year-old Stonebridge. It was a mind-blowingly beautiful sound. If my experience is anything to judge by, you're going to be in love for a very long time!

Thanks, MBee!

I’m having the time of my life right now with it. I’ve gone through several periods of setting the guitar aside for years at a time, but it’s been about a year now that I’m back at it (I know—I’m an actual pandemic lockdown cliché) and it’s become unthinkable to set this guitar aside for more than the time it takes me to sleep at night (while dreaming about playing it).

If I get my courage up and can manage a reasonably decent recording (with the LR Baggs Anthem pickup since I don’t have any microphones or other recording paraphernalia), I might even try posting some of what I’m playing these days.

Thank you so much, jklotz!

I’m sure it will. (Honestly, I think I’m the weak link in that particular formula. )

So since you are in France, there is a string brand you should try that is based in Paris.

Also, I love 80/20 on my Furch GA. Adds a little more bass.

Interesting. I hadn’t heard of these Philippe Bosset strings before. Thanks!

I do have the 80/20 Elixirs in mind for one of these days (I just wonder if the high strings won’t get a little too twinkly with them) ...also, I’d like to try out Thomastik-Infield Plectrums (flat wound D and A strings, I think) from out of Vienna.

First world problems—so many strings, so little patience.

Make sure you humidify your guitar.

Thanks, everyone!

@TBman — Barry, thanks for the wise advice. However, chez moi, the real problem is too much humidity, even in winter (I live in what is probably the wettest region of France). I have a Govee hygrometer in my cart at Amazon and am looking at silica gel packs in order to fight the good fight.

Thanks! It is just such a lovely thing to behold and play. Maybe a little banal compared to so many extraordinary guitars I see on this forum, but as I say to my husband, “The most beautiful guitar is the one you are delighted to find in your own home already.”

The good thing is that those Hiscox seal and keep humidity quite well. I love the humidipaks.

Congratulations on the new Furch. And an unknown upgrade from blue to yellow, that’s a nice surprise.
